The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
Cordelia had spent the rest of the day, and the night, out in the outskirts. She hadn't slept at all, and had stared at the diamond containing Elena's soul. She had been planning to do an enchantment with it, to help Arynn Frey, but she was afraid of wasting a soul as powerful as this one. She wasn't selfish enough to use it just for herself. She wasn't looking forward to going to see Akagi and tell him what she had done, but she knew she needed to.
Eventually she would go back to where she had buried the key to the prison and dug it up. Then she returned to the cottage where she had spent the night and used her port key to open a door to Akagi's office.
She would step through it and be immediately in his office, surpassing everyone else. She had no time for casual chatter.
There was a chance that Akagi hadn't even noticed that anything was wrong yet. It wasn't unusual for him to not see his aunt for a few days, but perhaps he would have asked about her, and then people would have had to say they didn't know where she was. There would be nothing that could indicate what had happened, and nobody would have been able to go to Elena's prison.
The older woman would look at Akagi. "I'm sorry to barge in like this, Akagi. We need to talk, urgently."

Akagi was finalizing details on two enchantments for Nevermere, he'd been up all night working on them but he didn't feel tired. As he was standing to go and find his brother the door to his office opened and out stepped his Aunt and Hand to which he greeted her with a smile, "Of course Auntie, please have a seat! Is everything okay?"

Akagi was still so joyous, and Cordelia had a feeling that soon that wouldn't be the case anymore.
"I'm afraid not", she replied, taking a seat without waiting to see if he would offer her one.
"Akagi, I did something, and I'm afraid of how you will react. I thought of fleeing, originally, but you deserve the truth."
She would look at her nephew in silence for a moment, before putting the key to Elena's prison on the desk. Still in silence, she folded her hand on her lap and took a deep breath.
"I harvested Elena Eldouir's soul. All of it."
A moment of silence to let it sink in. Cordelia felt the port key she was holding in her hands on her lap. If Akagi responded badly, she could make a run for it.
"Before you say anything, I would like to say that I will take full responsibility for this. I know you've been meeting with Lorendale and Nevermere, and that I essentially killed their prisoner. You told me we could do some experiments on Elena, and well, I took my chance. The only good Eldouir is a dead Eldouir. I saw my opportunity and took it, in case the trial wouldn't go as planned." In case the Eldouir managed to crash the trial. In case Iliana didn't sentence Elena to death.
Unless he interrupted, she would speak again. "Lorendale and Nevermere will be angry about this. What I hope is that they, and you, can see the power we have now. A Gift manifests itself in the blood, and while we can't do anything with that, we now have an extremely powerful soul. I vanished last night, and spent the whole night thinking what enchantment I wanted to make, but what's more important to me than that, are you, Sylas and Arynn Frey. If you want to be mad at me, you have all the right to, but please think about the possibilities here. I'm but a mere aura enchanter, but you and Sylas could use this soul to make an extraordinary weapon, something that can help us defeat all Eldouir once and for all."
A shrine enchantment to keep Gifted out. A saga enchantment that removes the magic from the blood. A shrine enchantment that neutralised all Gifts. They had a real opportunity here, and Cordelia just hoped her nephew could see it.

And the house of joy that Akagi Llewellyn had been living in once again came down once again, his look was of sheer disbelief as he slowly sank back into a chair.
"what have you done?" he whispered, it wasn't really for his Aunt but more so a question to himself. He had trusted to easily and that was his true down fall a shortcoming of epic proportions. Rubbing his head in sure signs of exhaustion Akagi turned his eyes back up to his Aunt, "Where is her soul and the portal key?"
Post by Cordelia Olivarius on Mar 25, 2024 4:23:54 GMT -5
She could have expected this, but she had hoped he would see why she had done it, but she crushed her nephew's spirit. Seeing him sink into the chair hurt.
"The portal key to her prison is on your desk", she said. She had put it there before she started speaking before, but he might have missed that due to the message that she brought.
"Her soul... I'm keeping safe until I know it would be used for something that can benefit Arynn Frey." She didn't want to risk it going to waste. If Akagi or Sylas didn't make anything with it, she would.
"What's going to happen to me?" she asked, rather dryly, which was unusual for her. This was a matter-of-fact situation and there was no use beating around the bush.

Akagi stood, "You will bring me the soul Cordelia," he said flatly his once usually bright eyes were dim as he retrieved the portal key, "The soul will be used to benefit all kingdoms and that was the plan the whole time, but you've made the situation much more delicate," Akagi explained scratching the back of his now hurting head, "As King and as host of Lorendales prisoner I will shoulder the responsibility of what you've done, is that clear?"

He was harsh, but she understood why. She had little other option but to trust him, so after holding his gaze for a few moments, she dug into her pocket and took a ring box from it, in which the diamond with Elena's soul resided now. She gently placed it on the table. "Even better. Offering it to all kingdoms will lessen the blow, and their anger at what I have done."
The woman was a tad surprised that he would take responsibility for it. "I'm more than happy to take responsibility for what I've done, Akagi", she said, as an offer for him to get out of this mess. "Did this cost me my position?" She was still willing to help the kingdom, and her nephew. As a matter of fact, she had done this whole soul harvesting to aid him and the kingdom. He would never be able to take Elena's soul without facing harsh consequences, but it was Cordelia who had done it. "I did this for Terra Nova's safety. I hope others will be able to see that."

Akagi rubbed his temples as his Aunt sat the ring box down, "No, this responsibility falls upon my shoulders Aunt Cordelia and while I see the logic behind what you did I fear the King and Queen will not," pride was big amongst the royals of every kingdom, even Akagi to a fault was prideful. He sighed, "It will not effect your position, but you can not pull another stunt like this am I clear?" he said each word slowly, he needed her to understand.

She smiled, but it was a sad smile. She was glad that Akagi confirmed that he understood her reasoning, but she had indeed put him in a difficult spot by doing what she had done. That's why she was more than happy to take responsibility, but she had offered it twice already now, and knew when to cut her losses. Delia wondered what Akagi would say to them. Would he pretend like he had harvested the soul? It stung for a moment, because if the king and queen of Lorendale and Nevermere, unlikely but still, were to applaud him for the decision, he would get the honour. The woman quickly forgot about that, though. She hadn't done this for personal gain and fame, but for the kingdom.
"I knew you'd understand. Thank you. And my sincerest apologies, as well." Apologies were the smallest thing she owed Akagi now. She held up her hand and placed the other over her heart. "No more shenanigans. No more stunts."

“No more stunts."
The words would have only just left Cordelia’s lips when the door to Akagi’s office would open. Though the laws of time and space would suggest the people coming from it were entering from the hall, they were not. Hadrian Usher entered from Nevermere with two trusted witches in tow. They would immediately take up a place on either side of the door as Hadrian looked between Cordelia and Akagi in surprise. But the surprise lasted only a moment before a severe scowl returned.
“My lady, your majesty,” Hadrian dipped his head appropriately to both, “Forgive the intrusion, but a matter of great importance has come to my attention. The Eldouir have returned to Lorendale to seek an audience with the queen. Her children have been safely to Nevermere, but as for the queen…” Hadrian shook his head in mild disbelief, “I fear for her safety. I have sent word to the king, but I do not believe it will reach him in time.”

Akagi would rise upon the arrival of Commander Usher, momentarily putting his Aunts promise aside, only for the color to drain from his face at the mentioning of Eldouir. His eyes cut between the Commander and his Aunt as he jumped and drew the most logical conclusion that he could find: they were looking for Elena.
"Cordelia, gather the royal guards and round up the family and take them to our safehouse in Faanor, Mother..Felita...the children, rouse the cabinet as well, I will be assuming the duties of the Commander of Armed Forces," Akagi took the diamond and placed it into his pocket, "Guards!"
Two men waiting outside the door would enter immediately, "Make haste with this order, raise all the city defenses, all citizens of Arynn Frey are to be within those cities immediately," Akagi ordered one Peacekeeper and looked to the other, "Gather one battalion of Peacekeepers and station them outside of the palace, now go both of you!"
The King would turn his attention to Hadrian, "They've come to find Elena do you suspect?"

Cordelia looked up when the office door opened. They weren't expecting anyone, so seeing not just anyone but Hadrian made her anxious. Something was wrong. After he had told them what was happening with the Eldouir, Cordelia shot a look at Akagi. If they were looking for Elena, then Cordelia might have sealed Iliana's fate by leaving her in a husk-like state.
She rose from her chair and nodded. "Am I to return here or stay with them?" she asked, secretly hoping for the latter. After the response, she would get to work, using her portkey so she would be able to find everyone quickly and bring them somewhere safe.

Hadrian did not interrupt as Akagi gave his orders. This was his kingdom, his command. When asked the question, he jumped back in. “It would seem logical, yes,” Hadrian responded, “Though with the Eldouir one can never be sure of their motives.” The commander continued.
"But if it is Elena they seek, they will not stop until they have her. If there's a bargain to be struck, I would consider it."

Akagi nodded in agreement with Commander Usher, "Very well, Commander I will go and promptly await my guests should they come," Akagi had zero reason to believe that Hiram Eldouir wasn't going to show up in Arynn Frey. The situation was far trickier than anyone could fathom and he did hope his Aunt would learn her lesson after this day, expect the unexpected, as her actions had now almost certainly meant more unnecessary death was sure to follow.
The King made to exit, should the Commander follow was on him he'd given his warning. Akagi would instruct Guards to warn just the palace of the potential arrival of the Eldouir that if sighted to not confront them but instead tell them the King waits their arrival in the throne room.

Hadrian would follow, indicating for the witches with him to do the same. Kennet wasn’t here, and the king was inaccessible at present. So it fell to Hadrian to represent Nevermere. Akagi may not be his king, but he was an ally, the husband to Nevermere’s princess. And he would not simply walk away while the king navigated such dangerous waters.
“Wait for them if you will,” Hadrian said, “But you needn’t wait alone.” The two witches and Hadrian would follow. They would be instructed to wait nearby, but remain unseen and outside of the throne room. Once they were settled, Hadrian would seek the princess to see that she made it to safety.
