The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

Change in how times flows. Was 4 IC seasons, now only 2 IC seasons per 1 OOC year.
5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
It was early in the morning, the clouds shifting colors as the light rose behind it. Coheed mornings had been nice, seeing a sunrise for the first time. Seeing the colors staining the sky so bright and vibrant in a way that she could have never imagined. It was like seeing the colors that she'd only seen on the dresses of noble women that were bleeding across the sky every morning and then again in the evenings. Probably the only things she would miss: sunrises and sunsets. Which, she wasn't knocking her home but it was something different from everything she'd ever known.
Elletta picked up the sandwich she'd made earlier, when she'd had trouble getting back to sleep and had finally given up. It had been a split second decision to wrap it in cloth and head out down to the beach down from the docks. Which, she wasn't even sure where she was planning on going until she'd wound up here, sitting on the sands that she hadn't seen in literal years.
Fucking hells and realms, it was weird being back in Skia. She missed it, missed Nevermere but it was also... throwing a branch into a wheel on a cart. Because there were things that she didn't have to think about in Coheed, certain emotions that hadn't come up (except once and then she pushed them away after he left) that were knocking around in her head. Because everyone was back, not just her.
Elletta flopped back on the sands with a groan, dropping the sandwich that she was no longer hungry for and pressed the heels of her hands to her eyes.

”What a waste!”
Think of the devil. Octavius was there, dripping from head to toe, his skin red with exertion, though whether the wetness was sweat or water was yet to be determined. He was in training gear, something thin and simple, and his jaw was chattering from the cold, yet he grinned.
"Fuck!" Elletta yelped and jolted up eyes wide, clearly startled and not expecting anyone. She blinked, realized that no she was not imagining Octavius standing in front of her and suddenly having to fight back a flush because he was just standing there just dripping wet.
"You need a bell or something." But she couldn't sound annoyed with him to save her life, so the words came out a little softer than planned. "But you can have the sandwich if you want."
Elletta pulled one of her knees up to her chest and plopped her head down on it. She watched the waves for a moment.
"Couldn' get back ta sleep earlier so went for a walk and wound up here." She turned her head to look at him, cheek resting on her knee. "Hows about you?"

Octavius took the sandwich, but instead of digging in he set it down beside him. He then also sat up and drew his knees, but so that he could bend his head between them to stave off the light-headedness.
"Training." He panted out the word. He'd been running, surely she could deduce. Not his forte, but he was striving to get better at it. After a pause he added, "Why didn't you just do some pushups and go back to bed? Or was it not a physical thing?"
A grin pulled at her lips, small and affectionate as she watched him for a second. She'd missed this. Then her thoughts that had kept her up caught back up with her.
"Woulda been easier if it was." She sighed and looked back at the water. "Jus' my head bein' stupid."

Octavius brought one of his large hands up to Eletta's head, poked out his pointed finger, and would push the tip of it against her temple if she didn't stop him.
"Stupid head." He echoed teasingly. Hey, she'd said it first. With a sigh he brought his hand back down. A little more seriously, he allowed, "There are lots of things to be thinking about these days." All of them coming back to Nevermere didn't bode well to him. "Wanna talk about it?"
"He-ey!" Elletta playfully swatted at his hand but didn't actually push it away.
Then he asked, and honestly, she'd never really hidden anything from him before so it'd be a little weird to do that now. But she had more than one thing on her mind and feeling something for her friend was not something she wanted to bring up right now.
"You ain't wrong. Just... was gettin' some letters from the family back in Coheed and bein' back..." Her hands started fisting into her pants without her realizing it. "It's dumb but I'm half expectin' my uncle or someone to show up 'round every corner, it feels like."

Octavius's grin dimmed a little at the mention of her uncle. If there was one thing Octavius was, it was loyal to his friends. He took on the anger she was too mature--or scared--to express. He always talked smack, and now was no different, even if years separated them.
"Ellie," he said quietly, a more cutesy nickname he reserved for specific occasions, "I'll beat the shit out of him if he comes around." It was gentle and heartfelt, ironic considering what he was saying. "Don't fret." He reached down with a single hand, intending to dislodge each of her fists from her pants. Didn't want her pulling them off, now, did they?
If it had been anyone else, she would have been more angry but there was too much fear from over the years to override. It didn't lock her up anymore but it could still have her shrinking in on herself. And she hated it, because she was capable enough to take care of him but the thought of her uncle made her feel fifteen again and-
Octavius's voice cut of the spiraling of her thoughts and it was like her eyes were pulled over to his. When he started uncurling her fists, she felt something catch in the back of her throat. Not the crush that she'd been holding on to for years but the fact that no one had actually ever made her feel as safe as he did.
"Thank you." It came out a little quieter than she expected and she felt her vpice crack more than heard it.

Octavius grinned and would toss one of his long arms around her shoulders if she let him, forcing him against his sweat-wet side. They'd laugh. They'd banter, and then eventually he'd get up and continue on his way, returning to training.
