The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

[ For @elletta ]
Hadrian had been asking his own questions, conducting his own investigation of the night. Overturning rocks had revealed some rather rotten realities, but it had revealed some gems as well.
And especially at a time when excellence was at a premium, good behavior was to be rewarded.
Hadrian had asked for Elletta, not by name but as “the girl in the infirmary.” He was a sharp man, but with so many soldiers under his command, unfortunately, he hadn’t committed every name to memory. Though he intended to learn hers.
Hadrian would be on the move, trudging down a hallway, trusting the soldier he’d sent to fetch her would snag her and find him where he was.
Come morning light, Elletta was bright-eyed but certainly not bushy-tailed as she made her way to the infirmary. The witch had slept in spurts through the night but at least she wasn't going to drop dead from tiredness. Admittedly, Elletta hadn't been sure if she'd be allowed entry into the infirmary but when she'd arrived she'd been allowed in. Not that she expected her friends to be awake but she checked on them in those early few minutes before there was a summons to the yard.
Which. That was something because the witch in question that had forcibly turned Octavius was executed and there was one officer she hadn't seen. Becker. That was a thought that curdled something in her gut. And then quickly shoved away when she was pulled from her thoughts. Instead of returning to the infirmary to sit with Octavius or Berengar (which she hadn't seen Zevran), apparently the Commander wanted to see her directly. Well, there went her morning and she hid a yawn behind her hand as she followes the soldier.
By the time the soldier had brought her to Hadrian Usher, she certainly looked more alert and professional than she had a few minutes prior.
"You asked for me, sir?" Even with the hint of tiredness in her voice, it was still respectful and professional.

Hadrian looked toward the woman, putting a face to a story. She was younger than he’d expected. But he supposed the Nevermerean military as a whole had gotten rather young as a whole with the new slug of recruits. So by comparison, perhaps she was a seasoned professional.
“Yes,” He said dismissing those who he was speaking with and giving the woman his full attention. “What is your name, soldier?”

Haider. The name wasn’t familiar, so he was going to make the wild and not unreasonable assumption her family wasn’t one of importance. Not that it mattered; Hadrian was a commander, not a matchmaker or socialite. If you could get the job done, he didn’t care where you came from.
“I’ve been informed you showed some skill as a healer in the infirmary. And on the…scene,” Hadrian didn’t know what else to call it, so he went with that, “Where did you learn such things?”
Well, she wasn't in trouble so that was good news at least.
"Learned some growing up, sir, and then picked up some more while stationed in Coheed for the last few years."
Between growing up as the only one responsible for raising her brothers until she was given an out and then finding the maon way to interact with slme of the Coheedswomen, she'd picked up a bit more than she'd realized. She just hadn't realized it was going to result in drawing attention to herself.

Hadrian nodded. It was a good enough answer and demonstrated the girl had some interest in it. At least, that’s what he deduced. One likely didn’t pick up such skills in Coheed unless they were seeking them out. They were hardly known for their medical sophistication.
“I’d like for you to join our team of medics. The skills you learn will be supplementary to your normal combat training, but I believe you’d be well suited for it.”

Hadrian spent so much time disciplining it seemed—and would likely be doing much more in future weeks—so it was nice to savor the moment of being able to do someone a favor. To be liked. He smiled, eyes still sad but a paternalism creeping into his gaze. For a moment, the storm clouds in his expression cleared before they came creeping in again.
“See that you take advantage of it,” He said with a nod. “If there’s nothing else, Private Haider…I’m sure you have duties to attend to. Your commanding officer will coordinate your inclusion in the additional training."
"Again, thank you sir." She paused. If this was a trying experience for the everyday soldier right now, she couldn't imagine how much more stressful this was for the upper chain of command. Coffee and potions were probably going to be used liberally, she was sure.
"Hopefully the rest of your day goes more smoothly, and please remember to take a break before you fall out sir." The words were said with a bit of concern.

Hadrian snorted a single, dark laugh. Take a break. How on earth could he afford to do that? Surprised at himself, he cleared his throat, a little embarrassed.
“Appreciated, soldier.” Hadrian nodded and would send Elletta on her way. After taking a steadying breath, enjoying the quiet for just a moment, he continued on with the day’s activities.
