Sylas was a private man, perhaps more private than he ought to be given his title. He has always been grateful that the responsibility of heir had never fallen on him. His sister, and now Akagi, were much better suited for it than he ever would be. In fact he was sure that if anything happened to Akagi that Sylas would merely pass on the proverbial buck to his younger sister and avoid the idea of ruling all together. He simply had no interest it.

Instead he was purely focused on learning and enchanting, though even that had taken a bit of a back seat since Kezia's return. He was still in awe that she was actually here after he had learned, inaccurately, that she had died. He had been in his office with the intention of studying a particular book but he had been staring at the same page for the last ten minutes at least when there was a knock on his door.

His immediate reaction was a furrowed brow and a deep frown. He was supposed to busy and didn't like being interrupted. Though it was the hope that it might be Kezia that pulled him from his desk. Instead he was disappointed as he opened the door and found the familiar face of Clovis Belcourt. Sylas didn't know him well but he was the Head of the Calvary so of course Sylas knew him by face and name.

"Lord Belcourt, to what do I owe this unexpected- visit?" he almost said 'interruption' but managed to just catch himself before saying something rude.

Well, this was unexpected indeed. He studied the man for a moment before pulling the door open wider. “Come in,” he said and motioned for a couple of chairs that were close together so they could talk.

He waited for Clovis to sit before allowing himself to do the same. “Why are you going to Lorendale?” He asked.

Sylas took another moment before he sat down. He had never been particularly good at socializing with others and cared little for what people thought of him and more about the logic of it all. He was the kind of man to get straight to the point of things and was always glad when others didn't attempt things like small talk. It was definitely a plus for Clovis on that account.

He sat after a moment and considered what the man had said. Learning military strategy seemed like a fairly good idea except for one thing..."I can't help but wonder though, Lorendale has done nothing but fail when fighting against the gifteds. What is it that you hope to glean from them when so far we have been the kingdom to have managed to nearly avoid war entirely."

Sylas could appreciate someone who wanted to learn all they could. Even if they only reason was an increase of knowledge on a subject they would never use, though this was not the case with Clovis. So Sylas nodded, accepting his explanation with no further questions on the matter. After all, he was a man of few words as a general rule.

He leaned back more comfortably in his chair and settled in for wherever this conversation would lead them. "So what is it that you want to know about them?" he asked, wanting to be sure to get right to the needed information rather than starting on an hours long spiel.

Sylas considered his questions before measuring his words with the most informative reply that he could. "There are gifted and anti-gifted sentiments in Lorendale. Where the royal family rests on the matter, to my knowledge, is in attempting to unite their kingdom regardless of gifted status. It seems a complicated matter after decades of gifted oppression, fear, and hate. As far as anything you should be aware of, when I was in Loren there were a lot of mixed feelings among the people and it wasn't uncommon to see violence on both sides of the coin. It has been some time since I was last there and I cannot be certain how it has progressed."

When it came to the Eldouir, Sylas felt his stomach clench. It was because of them that Kezia had left in the first place. It was a miracle she'd managed to return to him. "The Eldouir are currently ruling over the dresmondi in Dresmond." This wasn't new information. After all, many dresmondi had been living as refugees here in Arynn Frey for years now.

"They are powerful, vicious, and seemingly heartless. We do not know what all they can do though I was there for the attack in Loren when they first departed. Their leader, Hiram, has some sort of blood magic. It is unclear what all he can do. There was a woman who transformed into a dragon, but she was killed that day. Other types of shapeshifts seem possible. Explosives and fire power, energy shields and attacks, telekinesis...there are rumors of plenty other things but none that could be verified. It's impossible to know what all they are capable of."

He was glad to know that Clovis at least seemed to be taking the threat of the Eldouir seriously. "There are our collars of course. They were created to suppress any magical gift from any of the kingdoms as we enslaved them to serve us. Beyond that, there are enchantments specifically made to suppress the effects of magic though I have none currently at my disposal. Perhaps my brother does." Or the Queen, but he couldn't be sure that his mother would have any interest in sharing those or not. He wasn't even sure what she was involved with or not these days.
