The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

All of his friends had received the following invitation:
Little Benji was next door with those Van Zant kids, Othello was paying a steep price for their babysitting but tonight was special in so many ways. Othello's somewhat new freedom. Regan. The fact he'd probably never see any of these fine folks after the war. He hadn't admitted it yet but so far he'd found that he did have a heart since his arrival in Nevermere. And he wouldn't. However tonight was going to be a good relaxed time! Othello was dressed in his new suit stranding alone in his fairly empty new home waiting for his friends.

Zarha was slightly nervous about the party, this was her first social event that wasn't military based and was because somebody actually wanted her there. So wearing a nice pink dress Zarha made her way to the party.. The thing was when they said a +1 she didn't know who she would ask to come with her.
However after some time she asked the nephew of the woman who been looking after her youngest brother and sister well she was in the barracks. "Thanks for coming with me Ajax. This means a lot to me." Zarha smiled as she was bringing some cakes and some other food as well. She brought some wine even though she wasn't much of a drinker she thought she bring something. She doesn't have a instrument, however she managed to find something she believe would be stunning for Regan as Othello asked her. A Moon necklack.
"If it means seeing you in a beautiful dress instead of your training uniform, I will do this any day of the week for you Zarha." Ajax was nearly whispering in Zarha ear when he said that causing her to slightly blush. Just as they got to the door as well, Ajax planned for her to be blushing when they reached the door.
"ummm Hi Othello. This is my friend Ajax." Zarha guested to her friend standing next to her who is this 6ft man who muscular possible in his mid twenties. He has a kind smile on his face.
He offered Othello his hand to shake, "It is a honour to meet you sir, I heard wonderful things from Zarha, but then everything is wonderful when it comes from her." When he said that Zarha was blushing even more heading behind Ajax. "Anyway, i made a table for your beautiful new home but being too big I could bring on a day that works for you?" He asked.

He had been pleasantly surprised when an invitation for a housewarming party had arrived. He had started to really like and appreciate Othello Allemeade , and was more than happy to attend his party. He didn't know who else was invited, so he was a bit weary. The last party in Nevermere hadn't really gone according to plan. But he had put it behind him, and had made his way over to the house.
Aldrich hadn't known who to invite to be his plus one, so he just arrived by himself. He arrived a little after Zarha Sliva and her friend, so once they had greeted Othello, so did the Lieutenant. "Congratulations on the house, friend", he said, going in for a very manly hug with a good old pat on the back. "That's quite the suit you're wearing." It was vibrant, and it was very Othello. He himself was also wearing a nice suit. The instructions of the housewarming gift had been lost on him, so he brought Othello a crate of whiskey, not to be consumed that night (unless Othello chose to) but just as a gift. He had put it on a table with other presents, and had also brought booze for that night like the Champion had requested.
We won't call it quits. We'll call it the start.

Othello had already invited Rhedara to his housewarming party, but she was still surprised to see an invite…especially an invite with such particular directions. She’d known that she had to get a gift for the huntsman, but she had no idea that she’d have to bring food and booze, too. Maybe it was normal…she hadn’t been to enough parties to say for sure…but she was pretty sure that this was not the norm. She wasn’t about to complain…Othello had been very nice to her when she’d been at a rather low point after being kicked out of the military, so she’d follow the directions and get everything. The plus one had been a pleasant surprise, and she'd asked @raff to come with her.
She'd arrive at othello's house in a blue dress that she'd bought with some of the money that she got as an advanced payment from her new employer. She'd seen it when she was out getting the Huntsman's gift that Othello had requested she purchase for him. She'd spent the morning preparing the seafood dish she'd planned to bring. It wasn't something she made a lot because of how pricy the ingredients were, but she'd decided that this was an occasion to splurge.
When she got into the house, she'd look around the room to take the room in and the people in it. Her least favorite person in the world was there and she fought not to make a face. She was there for Othello and she was determined not to do anything to ruin it for him. Since Othello was occupied with the guests that had arrived before her and Raff, she'd circle toward where she saw a gift table and dropped off what she'd brought there and deposited the food on a table that had dishes on it (or looked as if dishes should go there) before she approached Othello.
The purple suit looked really good on him. The contrast between his suit and the man's yellow hair was appealing to the eye to say the least, "Hi Othello, nice place," she'd smile before gesturing toward Raff, "I don't know if you two have met, this is @raff. Raff, Othello Allemeade."
Raff saw the Van Zant kids and stopped in to give them a quick hello before stopping at the new place of the Champion of Nevermere.
His hair was neatly tied back and he was dressed in his work suit from Keelan's last job it was a good clean suit but nothing in comparison to the people around him. Especially Rhedara Shannon in that knockout blue dress. Raff wasn't sure what to do with the bottle of whiskey he brought so he just carried it in his right hand, holding onto Red's waist with his left.
Not many had shown up yet or it was a really small party. He saw Zarha Sliva dressed in pink and Aldrich Abbott in a good suit greeting the guy. That Othello guy was even bigger up close. He had to be about bore's height--and the best dressed guy there by a mile! It was strange seeing everyone out of uniform..
Raff smiled up at Othello Allemeade after Red's introduction and put out his left hand for a friendly shake.
"Nice ta meetcha. I see yer neighbors with the Van Zants--they're good people, so any friend of theirs, is a friend of mine."

Warren rarely got invited to non-military events, and for a while he hadn't intended to show up at all. But the invitation had made him laugh, and he found himself worried that he might disappoint Othello if he didn't show up. So he resolved himself to go, even if just for a while. Make an appearance and then leave so that the others could enjoy themselves. That seemed fair.
The invitation had asked for a lot, but he supposed parties were probably done differently in the places Othello was used to. He'd asked for everyone to bring gifts, food, drinks, and entertainment...so, everything. But somehow it was all still wildly amusing. He didn't plan on showing up with anything other than a gift, but his mother had gotten ahold of the invitation and she had insisted he come with a little of everything. So...he did.
He showed up with more than a handful of things and, seeing Othello initially busy with other guests - Rhedara Shannon and Lieutenant @raff - he first moved toward the tables to sit down his haul. A large tray with assorted cured meats, cheeses, and sliced breads was sat down first and what appeared to be the refreshments table. Followed by two bottles of wine.
He had remembered, somehow, that during the ball Othello had taken a lute from the band to play. Warren couldn't play anything himself. He'd learned piano as a child, but had long forgotten it, and you couldn't exactly bring a piano along. So instead he had brought a lute, and rested it down on the floor at the end of the table, leaning against the wall.
Lastly was the gifts. There were two. Warren had no idea that Othello had planned this party for Regan, and had no idea why he had requested a gift for 'an orphan girl ages five to twenty-five.' It was vague, but he'd settled on something he thought would be acceptable - a matching silver, white, and navy brooch and hair pins (pretend they match okay?). He sat the gift box containing the girls gifts with the others, but held the second box in his hands until he had his chance to speak with Othello.
As the others cleared from the man hosting the party, he approached the taller man with a mild smile. "I'm glad to see you've bought yourself a place here in Nevermere, Mr. Allemeade," he said, offering to shake the familiar mans hand. "And dressing like us, too." He looked Othello over. The color was...well, it stood out. Warren almost felt under-dressed, having opted for a simpler, dark blue suit. Though for once, he did switch out his combat boots for more appropriate shoes, as uncomfortable as they were. "Here, this is for your boy. It's just some wooden figures, hand-me-downs from mine, but I'm sure he can put them to use." He handed him the other box he'd carried inside over to Othello, and shoved his hands in his pockets. Now that they were empty, and no sword rested on his hip, he felt lost.
"I'll say hello to the others and get out of your way," he nodded his head to the man and moved aside, heading across the floor to greet Zarha Sliva.
Ber was beginning to think he’d misunderstood - or at least missed something on - the invitation. He knew from personal experience that food would mean more than anything to an orphan child, so he had brought a loaf of homemade bread. Though it had a little swirl of cinnamon, it wasn’t pretty, but he’d made it himself with Melody’s help. The other baked good, a meat pie, was because Melody and Temperance couldn’t help themselves. He also knew from personal experience that orphan adults liked alcohol, so he’d bought the nicest whiskey he could afford on his meager salary. But when he walked up and looked around, he was less certain that the whiskey would ever make it to an orphaned girl aged twenty-five because an orphaned boy aged twenty needed it more.
As he considered the other attendees who had already arrived, Ber tried to keep the dismay from his face, an endeavor that became even more challenging with every name he heard on the guest list. Why had Othello invited so many officers - and all the asshole ones at that? He’d also invited a witch who cursed someone despite the last party being ruined by a witch who cursed someone, another witch who literally did nothing but work and therefore had no understanding of fun, and the soldier who was continuously competing with Woodwick for who had the biggest stick up his ass. Furthermore - Ber eyed the outfits everyone else wore - no one had told him to dress up, and even if they had, his only suit had been ruined weeks ago, which meant he was definitely underdressed in his normal clothing. He’d thought this was supposed to be a fun event, but if the guest list was anything to go by, it was shaping up to be a work function with a handful of his least favorite people instead.
Thoughts of the Dresmondi and what had happened to him did not improve his mood, but a nudge to his leg and some happy panting helped to distract him from his souring mood. Ber hadn’t come alone, and the large black puppy at his side had seen fit to remind him of it. The corners of his lips quirked slightly upward even as he reminded the dog sternly, “Behave, Artos. Not everyone tolerates your slobber as much as I do.” Artos merely grinned at him in response, tongue lolling out of the side of his mouth. Thanks to Thom’s consistent training, he was well-behaved, and though Ber expected he would be spoiled rotten by all the attention he would receive at the party, the soldier was not truly worried about the dog causing trouble.
It wasn’t like there weren’t enough officers here to yell at the both of them if he did. Seriously, what the fuck, Othello.
The thought had Ber heaving a heavy sigh. Who in their right mind would think of inviting— Whatever. It wasn’t his party. He was here for Othello and Regan, and Haider, at least, knew how to have a good time. Plastering a smile on his face, Ber greeted Othello Allemeade with quiet gratitude. “Thanks for inviting me. Hope you don’t mind that I brought Artos along.” He gestured to the dog, who was curiously sniffing the gifted man. Ber glanced around. “Quite the, uh, interesting crowd here,” He said before offering up the satchel with his humble gifts. “Where would you like these?” After setting them where indicated, Ber moved further into the room, Artos at his side until—
The dog, having recognized a particular scent in the room, went straight for @warren , his tail wagging furiously. Utterly betrayed on multiple levels, Ber stared after the furry traitor for a long moment before shaking his head and continuing on his path toward the closest wall. Artos could do what he wanted. In Ber’s opinion, having to mingle with these people during work was bad enough, so he would stay just as long as he had to then find an excuse and leave. He could return to visit Othello and Regan by himself at a later time.

Almost everyone was there which made Othello a very happy man, it was going great so far. He directed his party goers to where everything could sat gifts on the gift table, food for the food table, and he just tossed the few coats on the floor of his own room. Othello liked dogs and told Ber it was chill as long as none of the dudes wolfed or dogged out at his party. Th next knock on the door had Othello answering the door and instantly smiling like a dog with a bone, "Allemeade residency? the lead woman asked, "you must be the lot from the Midnight House, yeah?" and the woman seemed to immediately take an interest in Othello as she started to play with the top button of his suit, "The pleasure is mine...Champion...I'm Divine and this is in order...Sapphire..Apollo..Phoenix...Indigo,"
Othello added very pleasantly, "oh that was my Mother's name."
"oh very beautiful...and that's Velvet and Poppy," Divine concluded her introductions, Othello waved very hungrily at Velvet and when she waved back with her hand lacking three fingers he couldn't help but bite his lower lip, "please come in!"
He put a arm over Divines shoulder as everyone passed until Velvet came through at which he dropped his other arm over, "Attention everyone! These fine folks helped a guy move in his furniture," that was a lie of course, the Van Zants had helped Othello move in and Kasper the neighbor boy had helped provide Othello with these party guests, "This is Divine, Velvet, Apollo, Phoenix, Indigo, and Sapphire...their like family...I'm really glad everyone is here! Waiting on a few more guests but eat and drink! No curses and no super hairy women am I right?!"

Zarha was standing in the corner as her plus one started to walk around and introduce himself to other partygoers. She feel like she was sticking out like a sore thumb. That when she noticed that @warren was walking towards her giving him a soft smile as she then noticed a dog following him she couldn't help but laugh.
"Hello Captain, don't mean to alarm you but I think you got yourself a little fluffy friend at your heal." She was trying to feel relaxed, not tense at all. She trying to be more relaxed around other people and be more human and not training all the time, she still feels lost though with akk if it.
She kneeled down to see if the dog come towards her and if he does would stroke it, "Aren't you a good boy?"
Her attention was drawn to Othello as he spoke as Zarha stood up and whisper just loud enough for @warren. "You got to appreciate his love of putting on a show." She know last time they spoke she told him she looked up to him as a father figure but she trying to get passes it.

He had placed the cold potato dish he had brought on the food table and looked over what other people had prepared for the party. He saw lots of dishes that made his stomach rumble, and he hoped they would eat soon.
More and more people arrived at the party, and he recognised Rhedara Shannon. Shit. He didn't know Othello got along with her. He would simply avoid talking to her for the night. That seemed best. He also said @raff, and wanted to greet the other lieutenant, but he was with Rhedara so he would refrain from going over there a little longer.
Instead he slipped his drink, and looked at Othello Allemeade when he introduced a whole bunch of girls. A grin formed on his face. He recognised some of them from the Midnight House. He had shares the bed with a few of them. He waved at Poppy after she recognised him and blew him a kiss. The moment Othello said they could eat, he grabbed a plate and got himself a bit of everything before sitting down somewhere. Poppy joined him.
"Well well, if it isn't Always Around Abbott. We haven't seen you in a while. Found a girl, have ya?"
He grumbled and shook his head while chewing. "Not really. Just busy with work, Poppy."

@berengar showed up with a cute, fluffy dog. She wasn’t sure what she liked more, the fluff, the friendly dog face, or Ber’s dismay as it scampered over to @warren . At some point that night, she’d have to make a point to go and pet it, maybe snuggle it…try not to kidnap it. It was required.
A knock summoned Othello Allemeade to the door, and he let in…were those prostitutes? She thought she heard him say ‘Midnight House’ so they must be…she wouldn’t have asked them to move furniture…well maybe Apollo...but just what kind of a party was he throwing? Maybe house warming parties usually had prostitutes? Or maybe it was a Coheed thing.
“This is an interesting turn of events,” she said quietly to @raff .
Raff saw Aldrich Abbott look his way and he nodded but was soon distracted by a bevy of very familiar faces. The tawny haired sloe-eyed Velvet winked at him, remembering him well. And Rhedara Shannon chose that moment to check out a dog that @berengar brought in and then she looked up at him. Now he was caught between an old lover and a new one so treading carefully was something that was top priority. @warren seemed like the best convergent point for both Stormcrest and Red to go toward. He had no idea if Velvet would approach him or not. The woman was a prostitute, not a wife so he negotiated the open field to have as little tension as he could manage.
"Yea. Very interesting. Hey Stormcrest brought a puppy, ya should check it out while I pour out some whiskey." Raff suggested neutrally. The last thing he needed right now was for Red and Velvet to start talking to each other...
As Warren approached Zarha, he nodded his head. "Hello, Ms. Sliva. You look lovely," he said in greeting, though he frowned someone and turned as she gave her warning. He glanced downward, spotted the puppy, then followed the line from which it seemed to have come. Seeing Berengar standing there, he knew what dog it was, and squatted down to greet him. "Hey there, boy," he said, roughly rubbing the dogs ears and snout as the dog licked at his hands. He stood aside and made room for Zarha to pet the dog, as well. "His name is Artos. He belongs to friends of Mr. Stormcrest."
As Othello made his announcement, Warren watched as the group entered the home. The mild smile the dog had produced slowly faded, if only for a moment, before a much wider one appeared. He chuckled, nodding as Zarha's words. "Yes, we should have guessed he would pull something like this." You couldn't always describe it out loud, but anyone could tell the difference between a group of military or civilian friends, and a group of people in a much less socially appropriate line of work. It wasn't exactly the kind of thing Warren was comfortable with, but it was Othello's party.
Artos, unhappy with Warren and Zarha's distraction and therefore lack of attention toward him, wandered off to someone new - either back to Stormcrest, or maybe one of the women who had entered. Warren lost track of him quickly in the small crowd, and sighed. He should have held on to him better. Puppies were comforting, but then again, they did draw attention. "Would you like something to drink, Ms. Sliva? The options appear to be wine and whiskey."
Regardless of her answer, Warren would excuse himself to get something to drink. He'd walk over to the table and retrieve the glasses - one if Zarha hadn't wanted anything, two if she had. He'd pour whatever she had asked for first, and then pour some whiskey for himself. If @raff made his way over to the drinks at the same time he had, he would offer to pour the mans whiskey as well. "Good to see you, Lieutenant Terach. I see you've come with Ms. Shannon. I hope you're both doing well?"
For a long moment, Ber watched Artos interacting with Woodwick and Sliva before abruptly changing his mind and deciding that no, he was not okay with his - technically Temperance’s and Thom’s, but for tonight, his - dog gracing either of them with his presence. Othello’s reveal of a whole new crowd of strangers only exacerbated the feeling. As he watched one of the women blew a kiss in Aldrich Abbott ’s direction, Ber noticed that they all looked more underdressed than him, albeit in an entirely different way.
Eyes widened slightly as something like horror gathered in the pit of his stomach. That horribly stilted conversation he’d had with Abbott in the Midnight House over a bowl of stew had been bad enough, but to now be faced with the establishment’s host of offerings while in the company of multiple superiors? The likelihood of that whiskey ever making it to that orphan girl grew slimmer by the minute.
But first: Artos. Peeling himself away from the wall, Ber started crossing the space to where Zarha Sliva and @warren were standing with every intention of calling the puppy back toward him, but as if the dog himself could read his thoughts, Artos abandoned the two and meandered back over to the young man’s side. Panting happily, he sat and looked up at Ber, tail thumping against the floor. Unable to stop a smile from flitting across his face, Ber knelt down and gave the black fur ball the attention he asked for.
After some amount of time, he remembered Othello Allemeade ’s invitation to begin eating and drinking, and Ber, never one to turn down an offer of free food or alcohol, glanced toward the refreshments table to find it occupied by Woodwick and @raff . On second thought, he wasn’t that thirsty anyway.

When @warren complimented her she couldn't help but give a soft smile. "Thank you, sir, you look smart." Not like he doesn't always look smart but hopefully he will know that it was due to his suit. When Woodwick introduce him as Artos and that it was friend of Bers she wanted to back away however she gave a smile, "You are a good boy artos"
Hearing Warren laugh made her laugh softly. "Yeah we shouldn't really, does sometimes makes knowing what his next move will be, which is always the fun point." It hard for her to switch of her military brain. However when he asked if she wanted a drink. "A glass of wine please sir." As she waited Zarha looked around at the events in front of her standing in the corner, she is very nervous.
