The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

[For @elletta]
It was the day after the party. Aldrich had no idea what had happened after he had left. He didn't know that Othello had collapsed on the floor, and that Elletta had dragged him back home. Because only a few invited guests had been there, he hadn't heard any talk in the barracks about it either. It had happened in the privacy of Othello's home, and so far there were no rumours of gossip. That being said, Aldrich didn't feel great about the party. To some extent, he was hurt. He thought of Othello as a friend. He liked the Gifted, and his spirit, but the blonde man had made it clear that he wasn't anyone's buddy.
Another reason why he was moody, was because he had started to get along with Elletta fairly well. He respected her as a soldier, a medic and a person. They hadn't been on duty at the party, but it still rubbed him the wrong way that she didn't listen to his advice when he had tried to put himself between Othello and the two women. Othello had been so drunk and unpredictable that he had been worried that he would try to hit one of the young women. But because Elletta had decided to continue to speak to Othello after Aldrich had asked them to go home, he had put her fate in her own hands.
Now the lieutenant walked into the infirmary, looking for Elletta.
Elletta hadn't quite processed everything that had happened the night before, even after she'd left the impromptu training with Ranger Winters. But those things were definitely sitting in the back of her head, whether she wanted them to be or not. To the point that there were certain events she was actively trying to not think about. At all. In any capacity.
Which meant that it was an unfortunate thing that she was on the more boring part of her studies in the infirmary, mainly shadowing if something happened but otherwise she was stuck with learning more about potions and procedures. Sure there were some interesting notes about incantations but those were few and far between. But she was trying to focus on it all like it was the most interesting thing in the country to keep her mind away from the thoughts she didn't want to address.
So Aldrich's arrival to the infirmary, since she could see the door from where she was studying, looked like a distraction from all of the above. Hopefully.

Aldrich crossed his arms and looked around the infirmary. It was everything you could expect from it, of course. Cots, medicine, potions, and so on. Luckily not too many people were in here with actual injuries. Most of them just felt under the weather. Then he saw Elletta, who was studying. Originally, he had wanted to ask her to spar and use that time to think of what he wanted to say, but now that he was here, he had lost the motivation to go out to the courtyard.
The lieutenant walked over to Elletta and sat down at the table. He looked at her books for a moment before looking at her. "I want to talk to you about Othello's party", he said. Beating around the bush was of no use. "Can we do it here, or should we go somewhere else?"
Any possible hope of a distraction from her thoughts was promptly tossed out the window. She would rather not think about the party and any implications at the moment, mainly because she had no clue what to think about them. It'd be great if literally anything else happened right now to not deal with any of this but apparently no higher power was listening.
Her gaze bounced around the room before she marked the page and closed the text. "Probably elsewhere."

Aldrich got up from the chair again and held out an arm. "Lead the way then", he said with a blank expression on hi face. Surely there was a spot around here where they could talk without being disturbed. An empty office, a lonely section of the infirmary. Anything would do.
Elletta wanted to drop her head on the desk and smack her head on it but she didn't. Instead she pushed herself up from the desk and led Aldrich over to one of the private offices. Goddess, she was about to get in trouble, wasn't she. Even off duty, she'd technically disobeyed an order but she was off duty and it was definitely in the heat of the moment and she probably shouldn't have said what she did as it was.
Once the door was shut, did she turn her attention back to the lieutenant. "Yes, sir?"

Elletta shut the door behind them. Aldrich wasn't familiar with this office, and wouldn't sit in the 'boss' chair. He sat on the corner of the desk, with one one leg/buttock. Aldrich looked at Elletta. "What happened yesterday, Elletta?" He had never called her by her first name before, but this wasn't official business. It was somewhat personal. He just wanted to know what her reasoning behind her behaviour was.
Elletta was some kind of antsy that had her pacing instead of sitting down, too many nerves and thoughts going on in her head. Including ones that she would rather not deal with but looked like she'd have to anyway. The use of her first name instead of her last at least cut out some of the nervousness. Meant it wasn't soldier business so that helped a little.
She dropped into one of the chairs with a groan, palms pressed to her eyes. "I don't know."
Well at least that part didn't include her saying things that should have definitely stayed in her head.
"He chugged the bottles that he had and then passed out on his feet, so I used a summons to get him home. Me an' a few others cleaned up the place after, best we could."
There was a beat of silence. "Fuck I shouldn't have said anything last night."

Now he did sigh. Othello could be a synonym for a sigh now. Alcohol, sighing and cursing. That's what Othello was. The lieutenant looked at Elletta. "I didn't know if he was gonna hit ya. I wanted to keep ya safe."
That actually pulled a snort out of the young woman as she finally leaned back in the chair.
"Wasn't too worried 'bout him hittin' me. He knows I can give as good as I get." She dragged a hand down her face. "More like I said somethin' that prolly shoulda stayed in my head."

Aldrich looked at her again. It seemed like they both had different things they were worrying about. "I understand that you met him already in Coheed, forgive me for trying to keep two soldiers safe from a man I don't know a lot about", he responded. "But what are you talking about? I'm here because I tried to help you and Sliva by taking Othello off your hands, but you wanted to talk to him and didn't appreciate me protectin' you. What did you say that you regret saying?"
We won't call it quits. We'll call it the start.

Oh. They were having two very different conversations. That was helpful. And not. Either way, she winced because he did make a good point.
"Sorry 'bout that. Wasn't thinking much of it, or at all, I guess." Just cause she knew the man, albeit probably not as well as others, didn't mean that everyone else did.
She looked down at her hands, fingers twisting together. "Pretty sure he was drunk enough to not remember anythin' but I may have kinda said I had... feelings for him." She trailed off as she spoke, with the last few words being more mumbled than spoken.

The man just stared at the girl in front of him for a moment, his face pretty much expressionless. There was a silence, for a moment, one that caused him to think about what Elletta had just said. He opened his mouth to say something, but closed it again.
After about thirty seconds or so, he did speak. "That's none of my business." Did he look like a match maker to her? He didn't understand why she would tell him about her feelings for the man, a man who was two years older than him, too. He didn't want to get involved in any of that. "I apologise if I overstepped boundaries by putting myself between you two. That whole party was a mess." He dragged a hand down his face. "You're a good kid, Elletta. I don't know what to tell ya, but it does seem like you'll have to talk to Othello to see what he remembers."
