(For @raff , takes place before marching orders and before Rhedara travels with Keelan to meet with the Vitlock brothers)
Rhedara had been granted a day off, and she’d spent the day getting various tasks done that she hadn’t had time to get done since getting her new job. Her new means of making money was not quite what she had expected…then again, maybe a lot of nobles used young women as pretty things for their associates to gawk at. It didn’t really matter. There were far worse ways to make money. For one thing, she didn’t have to touch his business associates…yet anyways. She didn’t know what she’d do if Lord Morrigan wanted her to do anything that involved touching them. For the moment, smiling at opportune moments, or lightly laughing at a terrible joke seemed to be enough. Go figure. She wondered what else a smile could get her.
She’d gotten all her other tasks like tidying up Bette’s home after the old woman had made a mess while preparing to be on the fishing boat for a few weeks completed. Now she was walking through the market to resupply on things like herbs for potions and cooking, and also for something to make for dinner that evening. Fish sounded good, so she went to some stalls that sold freshly caught fish and managed to get a fish for a good price. Strategically smiling really did have its uses. She’d be eating alone that night most likely, but she still got a little more than she needed for just one person in case—or rather in the hopes that she ended up having company that night. She wasn’t sure if that day would be one of the days she’d get to see Raff. It wasn’t one of his days off, and she wasn’t sure if he was going to go home right after he was off duty or if he’d drop by her place afterward.
Shopping complete, she started to go straight home, humming a song that her mother used to sing. She paused after taking two steps and decided to instead make a detour and loop around to some of the general areas she knew Raff sometimes frequented. She didn’t always wait for him to come by, and that night would not be one of those nights. She wouldn’t force her presence on him, but she still wanted to at least see him even if it was for a little bit.
