The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

[For @elletta]
Ben had got off duty at the palace but rather than heading straight home he made his way first to The Midnight House. Not because he was itching for some play time but because he often stopped by whenever he could to check on things, provide any help that he might be able to offer, and just to spend time with the friends he’d made there over the years. It was the same way it had always been but Ben wasn’t the only one who felt the whole that Ravin had left when he moved on.
He moved through the streets without rushing but with his goal in mind. On the ground a flutter of white caught his attention and he spotted a folded piece of parchment on the ground that looked as though it has just fallen. He bent to pick up and called out to the person nearest him, a younger woman who he thought he faintly recognize from mandatory training but couldn’t be sure.
”Excuse me, miss. Is this yours?” he asked, holding out the folded parchment.
Elletta was tired between a building headache and working several days in a row between her studies and her duties so it should have come as no surprise that she'd lose track of a note she'd made and stuffed in a pocket. Not anything important as far as her medic studies or pertaining to her duties as a soldier but more as a reminder for herself. Nowadays, if felt like she'd lose her head if it wasn't sitting on her shoulders so she'd started writing notes and reminders about everything.
She didn't even notice that the note was no longer in her pocket until someone got her attention. Turning around to see a vaguely familiar man, and only familiar in the way that she'd seen him around the palace so he was probably a soldier, her eyes went immediately to the parchment in his hands. In response, she checked her own pockets just to realize that, yes it was hers. The witch flushed a little, definitely embarrassed as she walked over to take the parchment back.

Ben offered the woman a smile and handed her the parchment, placing it into her palm. "Not a problem at all, happens to the best of us," he said. He was about to just continue on his way when he changed his mind. "Are you alright? I could accompany you back home...or wherever it is you're going if you like?" he suggested. She seemed a bit out of sorts and he couldn't help the nagging feeling that her lack of attention might get her into trouble if she wasn't careful.
"You never know what kind of rascals might be around as dusk approaches," he said with a playful tone, keeping his expression more lighthearted though his concern was genuine. He had seen his fair share of...unpleasantness over the years and she was much too pretty of a young lady to not be noticed.
There was a beat where she opened her mouth to say 'no' but she ended up yawning instead, her hand coming up to cover her mouth as her headache pulsed behind her eye. She still wanted to say no but she also knew better, from experience, about what was more likely to happen. She winced at the thought and another pulse.

She didn't clarify if she was feeling alright or not but that hardly mattered in the end. He was just grateful that she had accepted his offer. He grinned at her and moved to step up beside her. "Then lead on, my lady," he said cheerily, keeping the mood as light as he could. As they started to walk together he picked up on a conversation. "I'm Ben, by the way. What's your name?" he asked.
