The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

“Oh yes,” she grinned conspiratorially, “Can’t have yourself looking less than you best! What will all we humble souls do with nothing and no one to swoon over?” She pretended to do just that when he mimicked tossing back thick head of hair, smacking the back of her hand to her forehead and leaning back in her chair, “’tis too much,” she said dramatically, “for my sweet, maidenly heart!”
Leave it to Ben to not be a boring stiff! She’d tried and failed to get a drinking game going with someone else. She should have known Ben would be up for it, “How about Coins (Quarters)? Or maybe Ten Fingers?”

Ben laughed at her over dramatic representation. Evanthe had always been so much fun. It was a shame they hadn't hung out in a bit. He'd have to change that going forward.
"Hmmmm," he pondered the options but he knew which one he wanted to play pretty quickly. "Let's do Ten Fingers," he said with a smirk. A favorite of his. "You start."

“Ten fingers it is!” her smile grew wide and Cheshire like. She laced her fingers together and stretched them as if a large task was ahead of her. She took a few moments to think of her first statement. She wanted it to be a good one, “Never have I ever…” she rolled her lips together as if smoothing pigment over them, “Made love in a superior’s office.”

Ben waggled his eyebrows at her while she thought of something and then laughed at her words. "That's not fair, you know Ellison was once a captain," he said with another laugh as he lifted a drink to his lips to accept his fate of having indeed made love in a superior's office.
"Alright," he said, rubbing his hands together with a smirk. "Never have I ever...hooked up with a soldier of equal status." He was actually surprised that he never had now that he was thinking about it. There had been a few opportunities where he might have been able to but most of his escapes were with non soldiers. Ellison had been the only one.

She smiled her Cheshire grin, “The way to win is to fight a little dirty Ben.”
“Ooooo,” she reached for her glass an knocked it back, “Who’s not fighting fair now?” Evanthe had not exactly been shy in the intimate department. Training and soldiering could be rough, and the comfort of intimacy had helped her though some rough patches.
It was her turn again. It took the amount of time to refill their glasses for her to think of her next one, “Never have I ever gone skinny dipping in mixed company."

Ben chuckled as she drank, of course she had, and every single one of those lads was damned lucky too to be able to claim they'd been in bed with the beautiful Evanthe.
He grinned at her next question and took a drink. A couple of times. Ben wasn't exactly shy and parties in the summer at the lake could easily get out of hand in all the best ways.
He too refilled his glass. It was hard to think of fun questions to ask when he himself had gotten into all sorts of 'trouble'. He'd have to play a bit creatively if he wanted to get her to drink when he didn't have to. He grinned when he thought of a question, though really wasn't sure how she'd answer. "Never have I ever had a threesome with two men."

She chucked as she watched him take another drink. It wasn’t just anybody that she could play a game with such statements with. And if either of them would judge the other for more promiscuous activities well…neither of them would have any room to stand even if they wished to say anything. Evanthe had not been a shy witch as far as intimacy went.
She’d refilled her glass, but did not drink it, “Me neither,” she smiled before turning the question back on him, “Never have I ever had a threesome with two women.”

Ben couldn't help but grin at the idea of Evanthe with two other women in bed. He wondered if it was something she'd even enjoy or if she was purely interested in only those of the opposite sex. He ran his fingertip over his glass thoughtfully before he finally lifted it to his lips to take a drink. He gave a little smile and a shrug as he did so. Yes, he had. Usually with one of Ellison's interests who was up for some group fun. It didn't happen all the time, by any means, but it had happened a few times.
He paused the game to scratch at his curiosity. "Do you like girls? Or just guys?" he asked. If they hadn't already been in such a spicy conversation, the question would probably come off as rather direct.

Evanthe’s grin grew pointed in the face of Ben’s grin, “And what’s going through your head now, sir?” She said, not upset in the slightest. Evanthe was not shy when it came to the subject of intimacy, and she’d be lying if she wasn’t picturing Ben doing a thing or two, given the topic their little game had taken.
His question gave her a little pause, but mostly because it was not a “never have I ever” question. Another time, perhaps the subject matter would have given her other reasons to pause, but they’d just asked each other if they’d gotten into any threesomes, so it really wasn’t that scandalous of a thing to ask. And it was Ben. Ben was probably one of the members of the opposite sex that she would not hesitate to talk about these sorts of things, no matter how taboo the topic may be. She wasn’t unaware of couples of the same sex doing the same sorts of things that a man and woman would do together. She’d walked into a few of those couplings during training. As for her, “Just men for me,” she said breezily before taking a drink, “What about you?”

At her pointed question he had merely smirked and gave a noncommittal shrug. He was sure she knew perfectly well what he had been picturing. He nodded as she answered the question. While it made that imagine in his head more likely to be an impossibility, he couldn't say he was disappointed either. Everyone had their own preferences and though society might tell them different, Ben personally believed in the idea of 'to each their own'. He wouldn't ever yuck anyone's yum.
"Both for me," he answered casually. With just about anyone else it wouldn't have been casual but things had always been easy with Evanthe and he loved that about her.
"Okay, never have I ever..." he hummed thoughtfully. "Cast a summoning spell." It was kind of cheating, of course he hadn't, but either it would make her drink more which was a win, or he'd find out what kind of creepy summonings she'd brought out of hell, which was also a win.

Given the direction their conversation had gone, Evanthe was not surprised that Ben had revealed that he liked both men and women. Another time, it may have, but not because of any societal norms. More because she’d only ever seen him with women. She wasn’t sure what to think of it, but she was hardly one to raise an eyebrow. After all, given societal norms, she shouldn’t have been laying with men she was not married to, but she’d long ago rejected that rule. So she only nodded as she refilled their cups.
Her glass did not remain full for long though. She frowned at him, although there was more than a spark of humor in her eye, “Cheater,” she said, smiling at the end of the word before knocking back her glass. Two could play at that game, “Never have I ever been born with a curse to turn into a werewolf.”.

Ben laughed as she called him a cheater and then tossed it back to him. He chuckled and tossed back his own drink too. He was definitely starting to feel it now. "Okay, but rewind, you really have never cast a summoning? Why not?" he leaned forward, curious about all her witchy stuff. "What kinds of magic do you excel in? Which one is your favorite?"

Evanthe looked back at their conversation and wondered if she had misspoken, “One of use has had too much booze,” she said, refilling their glasses, “I’m really good at summonings, which makes it my favorite,” she laughed, “I’m probably the worst at curses, but those are more about creativity than they are control,” she’d worked so hard to have the grip she had on her magic, “which is one of the reasons I signed up for the paired program.”

Ben laughed, his cheeks tinged pink from the alcohol. "Well, I wouldn't doubt that," he said, a small apologetic look in his face for having misunderstood. He was definitely feeling more than a bit buzzed and it was definitely likely that the fault had been his own. Even still, when she refilled their glasses his ringed fingers circled the rim with every intention to continue to drink. Cause why not? Sometimes it was fun to just fully let go and get into a little trouble. At least Evanthe was a good friend who he trusted.
"Ah I see," nodding in understanding, or at least he assumed he was understanding more clearly now. He supposed he'd find out when he thought back on this conversation tomorrow. "You have?!" he asked with interest, leaning more towards her when she said she'd signed up for the paired program. "Have they given you you're partner yet?"
(Hope my timing is correct on this one and that she wasn't already paired before this thread haha)

Evanthe was a bit buzzed herself, but she wasn’t aware of how buzzed she was getting just yet. She drank from her cup and immediately filled it again, enjoying the burn of the alcohol.
“Sure have,” she said as she refilled her cup, “They haven’t assigned anybody to me just yet. I had an old colleague that I thought would fit the bill since his partner died last year but…” she shrugged, thinking about her shaggy friend, “He just went silent on me, so I don’t think it’s gonna happen. Not with him,” and it was probably for the best. He didn’t seem to like her that much. She lifted her glass, “Here’s hoping for a partner soon.”
