[For Elodie Atwood]
Although Nirthya had lived in Nevermere, and specifically Skia, for as long as she remembered, the streets still felt new to her. As a noble, she didn't often go out shopping herself, or by herself. Either servants would get what she needed, or a maid would accompany her on the streets. In addition to that had Nithya been away from the public for a while, until she had fully finished her training and her duties to the coven. Now she was able to roam freely again.
The woman was meeting with the king soon, about all kinds of things, but today she would take a look at the city to see how the vendors and businesses were doing. She would have to report on this too. Closer to the palace and the docks, vendors were selling fish and supplies. In the heart of the city, vendors were selling vegetables and fruit. The bakeries smelled good and the taverns were cozy during this time of day. Not too many people were drunk yet, for it was only around noon.
Ever since the attack on the wall in Arynn Frey, the presence of soldiers in the streets were at an all time high. She had heard that their shifts were longer and that the soldiers didn't have as many days off as they used to have. She would say she felt for them, but that wouldn't be the truth. They were doing what they were told, and what they knew they could have expected when they enlisted. She had little patience for soldiers complaining about their long hours.
Nithya continued to walk down a street when she saw an old man talking to a soldier. She wondered what it was about. The man seemed in a state of worry, or he was upset. She couldn't quite see his expressions from where she was standing. With a straight back and an elegant step, she walked closer and joined the soldier and the man.
"Is everything alright here?" she asked. If the soldier didn't know she was a royal courtier, then she would at least look sympathetic and willing to help.
