[For Hadrian Usher]
Logan had scoured the house from top to bottom when he arrived but the whole house was the same. Furniture covered in sheets, dust on the surfaces, and a musty smell that hinted it hadn't been occupied in some time. Logan had no idea how long he'd been gone for, all he knew was that it had been a while. He had assumed that people would be looking for him, not realizing all the signs that had been left behind that had all but proved he'd died.
He sat down on the bed in the room he had shared with Alys, feeling exhausted and hungry, and ran his fingers through his hair as he rested his elbows on his knees. The next place to look for Alys would likely be the castle but Logan didn't feel ready to just walk into such a public space right now. He considered that she might be at the Hollow but if he was wrong then he'd have to face his entire family before finding his wife and he wasn't sure he was ready for that either.
He was tempted to sleep but he was still on edge, feeling like whoever had taken him might still be following his trail or something. He couldn't just stay here alone. He pushed himself off the bed and moved to the closet where he did find at least some of his clothes. They were technically clean but had a moth ball kind of scent. Still, he needed to change out of the clothes he was wearing. So he donned what felt familiar to him, military grade pants and shirt with his heavy black boots. The clothing fit slightly different, hanging looser than they had the last time he'd worn them.
Having no horses or carriage here, he'd had to walk further into town where he managed to borrow a horse with an old coin bag that had been left behind at the house. He went the only place he could think of that felt secure, the home of his best friend, Hadrian Usher.
By the time he arrived it was near dusk. As much as he tried to stand tall and proud there was still a slight heavy hunch in his shoulders as he knocked on the door to the Usher home.
