The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

Felicity had just collared an Eldouir.
Her breath was shallow and her hands trembled. She kept huffing and chuckling, attempting to dispel the nervous energy but with no success. The overwhelming sentiment: victory.
One Eldouir down…way too many to go. But one was a success. It was a win for Lorendale. She had also put the collar on Remiel. He was a little more complicated, but better he was collared than not. She didn’t care if Tybalt was mad at her (okay, she did). She had followed the king’s orders.
Felicity should have gone home…but she didn’t want to. She wanted to make a difference in her beloved kingdom. She walked the palace halls.

Scout was on her way out of Augustus' office, with whom she had talked right after what had went down with Oriana, and was now trying to make sense of everything. It didn't take long before she suddenly bumped into Felicity. "Oh, hi, aunt Felicity." It felt somewhat weird to think this woman was her aunt. She was only a few years older than Scout was.
She wondered what her aunt was thinking. She knew of her audience with the queen a while ago and she had noticed things weren't going as well between her and Tybalt. "I can't believe it, a collared Eldouir. Hopefully we have time to prepare before Hiram comes to get her."

Felicity was a fighter and quick to boot; she didn’t bump into people. She did, however, slow, smiling at the sight of Scout. She didn’t know this niece by marriage that well, except she knew she was an honor to the Kane name. She cut a simple bow, wearing her marshal’s armor.
“We have much to fear.” She said truthfully. She had seen Eldouir magic up closer than most. “You would do well to take cover until this blows over, niece.”

They did have much to fear, that much was true. Still, she didn't much like the words Felicity spoke after.
"You underestimate me, Felicity", she said with a polite smile, but not a genuine one. "I will stay close to the queen, especially now her marshal doesn't seem to have her back anymore. What did uncle Tybalt say about your audience with the queen? I can't imagine he shared your opinion."
It might not seem so judging by the choice of words, but Scout spoke in a tactical and diplomatic manner, which made it sound less accusing than it actually was.

Scout may have intended for her words to sound diplomatic, but they were anything but. Not once did they insult Felicity’s statements, but thrice; first her assessment of the situation, then her loyalty to the queen, and lastly her unity with her husband. It didn’t matter if any part of it was true. Scout was younger, both in age and experience. She was an arrogant young woman and Felicity’s offense was not something she would easily forget.
A rigidity entered her form, one that tightened her eyes and lips.
“I’ve given you my advice, niece, but you seem to have already drawn your conclusion.” Felicity hadn’t politicked for quite some time, and now she remembered why she preferred gossip at balls to actual conversations of this nature. Loyalty was always being questioned. If Scout knew anything, it was that the Zaks served Lorendale, always. Insolence was unbecoming on her.
“You would do well to take care where you step.” Those words carried a double meaning. The Lady Steward represented the queen, after all, and if she went about insulting those seeking to serve the young monarch then Iliana would find herself rowing uphill without a paddle through little fault of her own.

Felicity didn't seem to pleased with what Scout had to say. The blonde crossed her arms as well, both their body languages becoming more hostile.
"You do not need to threaten me, dear aunt. I'm merely trying to understand your reasoning behind your audience with her majesty the Queen." She smiled, but again not a genuine smile.

Felciity frowned, confused how a woman with so little astuteness has managed a position so close to the queen. Even their young monarch had more political competence.
“My words held no threat. Only a warning. You seem to be swimming in pools you have no strength for. The tides of politics are merciful to none.” Her gaze flickered over the other woman, offended as she was with no backing.
“My address to the queen was rather direct. Her people are dying. Gifteds are taking us, killing us. Still nothing has been done for the fifty soldiers that were taken by Myla Eldouir on Lorendale soil.” Her frown progressed to something full of disappointment. No wonder the queen was inactive. Those closest to her were more intent on saving her reputation that saving the people of her kingdom.

Scout listened and heard what Felicity said. "I understand", she eventually said. "Really, I do. It's frightening, to say the least, that our people are getting killed by Gifted, and I feel for you and your soldiers."
She sighed, regretting the way she had approached Felicity. "The queen is young, but it is a difficult subject. There are also Gifted working with us, so collaring them all again seems hardly the solution."
She thought again. "Maybe talk to uncle Tybalt, and see if he can arrange a meeting with Elena Eldouir. I'm sure she knows what Kyla did with your soldiers."

”Not a souls besides the deranged have suggested collaring them all.” Felicity said quickly, still rather perturbed that such a woman held the position of Lady Steward. This was, no doubt, a part of the problem. If Iliana was surrounded by those who challenged the loyalty of her subjects and made assumptions without actually listening, then no wonder she did nothing. What could she do?
“Thank you for your suggestion, but I have already been taking action at every chance I get.” She didn’t have as courtly a face as others, and couldn’t keep the ire fr her expression. “I love my kingdom, Lady Kane.” It was a closing remark, as far as Felicity was concerned. Politics without politeness weren’t worth engaging in.

She had tried to figure out how Felicity felt about all of this, but so far she hadn't been able to catch on to her way of thinking. She thought Felicity had been pro-collars, but apparently not, so Scout was wondering what she did want to happen to the Gifted. Maybe she was a fan of the whole idea of sending them off to Coheed.
"You and I both", she said in response to loving their kingdom, before curtsying as well and leaving.
