The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

It was winter. Harsh and unforgiving for those outside the Eldouir Estate but inside it was as warm as butter on toast, Ish loved the winter and so did his dedicated troupe of critters even though he had to keep his twin bears outside some of the smaller ones hid amongst the nooks and crannies of the estate (Avalon always bitched about it so they tended to still remain hidden out of fear of a flying projectile or pressurized boom boom). Still it was nice to be warm they thought and speaking of toast Ishmael loved his toast and butter which meant for Gus the rat, a blissful nirvana. They were currently sharing a piece and also with Avery and Helga all of them hiding in a random empty room they happened across as they hunted for Helga's chew toy.
She had took to biting lately, Avery and Ish being victims of said biting thought perhaps a bone or piece of rawhide to chew on would cure the biting. Ish believed in perhaps biting her back one good time would be a cure, but best to try anything really her teeth were getting sharper after all.
"Poppa what is our next lesson?" Avery asked with a mouthful of toast, Ish blew out through his lips like a horse in pondermemt breaking a piece of his toast and feeding it to Gus, "A classic," he grinned out the side of his mouth which brightened his green eyes, "the art form of wrestling," Avery beamed, "are you a good wrestler poppa?"
Ish let out a stiffled corhotle of laughter that made his rock solid gut actually jiggle, "The best. I am as strong as a bear! Why? Because I've beat bears, and if Uncle Hiram hadn't broke my arm in three places and almost drowned me in my own blood after...I'd have beat him too...I can teach you too. When you get your gift you shouldn't just rely on it, you have to know how to break a neck or crack a man's jaw with just your hands..."
Avery flexed, "I'm going to be as strong as you poppa," and Ishmael nodded in agreement, "better..."
Myla had this habit of checking on her children. She tried to act like the other women in their family. Had tried to make it seem like she was almost uncaring about her children until they showed a promising gift… but she failed miserably. Perhaps her want to be a mother to them was the only normal thing about her. But it was a want that sat in her chest as she outwardly didn’t give much love or attention… not as much as she had wanted.
But it didn’t stop her from visiting. Frequently. Even if just to watch them from afar. Kane, her eldest. Avery, her first girl. And her other daughter, she was still too young to have shown any real gift yet. But Myla had high hopes and expectations.
She moved through the halls, bundled into a thick shawl that was wrapped warmly around her. The fur brushing her jaw as she walked, moving towards the rooms that kept the young ones until she heard a familiar voice… Ishmael. The father of her middle child… whose voice rung out next. She slowed as she approached the open door, only to stop in the doorway and watch them. Ish had always been warmer… softer in his own way with the children he sired.
Instead of interrupting, she leaned on the doorframe and stared in at them, a longing in her chest that was buried behind what had been a forced lesson of ‘don’t be soft on them, itll only make them weak’. If any of them looked to her, it’d be the only thing that would make her step into the room. Her arms still wrapped around her under the furs.

"better...," Avery repeated and mockingly attacked her Father wrapping arms around his thick neck as all three began to wrestle about in the room oblivious of Myla for the moment. Ish stood Avery dangling around his neck still as he simply scooped Helga up tearing her off of his leg and chucking her into the air where it looked like she was suspended for a few seconds, Ish grabbed Avery by the ankle pulling her away from his ankle dangling her upside down, "oh, it's momma," Ishmael (rarely) smiled at Myla catching Helga at the same time by her own ankle. The girls giggled as they hung upside down high off the ground waving at Myla/Momma, "I wasn't going to break them...," Ish then lighlty (not really) tossed them on the soft couch behind them.
Her eyes lingered on Avery. She could see her own face before her, just more childish, more round with innocence… if an Eldouir could ever be such a thing. She barely glanced to Helga, not in distaste but Myla was soft on her children… not on the others. So her gaze flicked only long enough to see the tooth grin before both girls were tossed back onto the couch.
“I’d hope not, Ishmael. Really be a pain in the ass to have injured little ones during the coldest time of the year. Can’t send them out to stop complaining.” She spoke directly to him, her brow rising. Myla glanced around the room, looking for those extra eyes that seemed to follow the man.
“How often do you visit them?” She asked, her voice flat, as if uninterested. Yet she was…

"Broken limbs excuses you from cold punishments? Grandfather Malachi once broke my leg and made me walk in the dead of Hiems for hours," a smile'less chuckle escaped big Ishmael as he shrugged, "I turned out alright."
Gus came out from under a old couch and ran up Avery and Helga (clearly hoping for more toast) as Ish looked down at both girls, "Two or three times a week, more, perhaps more than I should?" he answered Myla's question before looking at her with those green eyes of acid, "I've heard you like to spend time with Avery more than other Eldouir parents spend with their children...isn't a crime."
Oh the things that Malachi had done to all of them. Myla was not exempt from them… not with a gift like hers.
“Well I certainly won’t be watching for them. So I’ll leave that to the nanny’s.” Though she had a sneaking suspicion that some of them would think twice when it came to her three. Even if she knew for a fact that Kane, her eldest, would most definitely overcome. He was too much like Hiram.
But he called her out. Hazel eyes flashing to meet his with only a touch of wideness to them and then a bit more rage. Those damn eyes were everywhere. “It is if she doesn’t make it,” she hissed under her breath. A crime to herself. Because she was attached. She knew it. Even if she hid it well. Or she thought she did. Myla kept her eyes from moving to their daughter and feeling… exposed she turned and pulled those furs closer to her. She had to leave. Which is what she fully expected to do.

If Myla proceeded to move on Ishmael didn't need to move to really stop her, he could, but the collection of rats now starting to flood the corridor perhaps would deter her. Ishmael would look at the girls and his eyes would tell them it was time to go, but if the rats weren't enough to change her course then as the girls left Ish would step up and firmly yet gently grab the back of the fur to stop Myla.
She made it all of a foot out the door when the swell of rats made her pause. Her jaw tightening til she swore she felt her teeth crack in her mouth. She knew if she tried to push through them, the rat king there would make more appear or have them snip at her ankles. The girls went rushing past her and she felt her hands buzzing, because she knew Ish was coming for her.
And took another daring step until his hand wrapped the back of her furs and spoke. She spun on him with a growl. Eyes flaring as she stepped to be almost nose to nose with him. “What, Ish? Wait for what.” She hissed at him.

Ish didn't recoil much less react to her anger nor did he move back as she came to meet him face to face. He stood tall and full knowing what punch Myla's Gift packed other than maybe some pain shed never really hurt him...maybe. Truthfully he never knew with this fucking family.
"You know, I'm not him," he didn't have to say his big brothers name, "I don't believe everything indoctrinated into our little loving family, you aren't Avalon and you aren't cold towards our child no matter how much you fake it plus you know she notices it? Your presence when you keep your distance, when you are there," a goofy grin spread across his face as he grabbed her around her waist, "you don't have fake the funk little momma, and Avery will be the future of this family she will be as strong as us..better..I don't fuck and Father to breed failures."
Myla wanted to snap her teeth at him, knowing how troublesome his words could actually be for their daughter. It meant that Myla had a weak spot. One that could easily be wielded against her at any time, Avery would suffer because of her mother’s weakness and soft heart.
Ish didn’t seem to care, not as he wrapped his arm around her and tugged her close. Despite the wild look in her eyes. Her hands pressed at his chest, just enough to keep her from being plastered to him outside her stomach to his. “Then she needs to be stronger. You need to push her to be the best seeing as you seem to spend plenty of time with your offspring that you ‘breed’.” She snipped. Even if what he said made her swell with pride.
Myla couldn’t create weak children. Not with a gift like hers.

"I was raised by a monster of a man and my brother is Hiram, I will manage pushing Avery," Ishmael couldn't ever read Myla, she was just so grumpy all the time and every emotion was either spit or grease, the rest of the family fit into one pocket and Ish was in his own pocket just as Myla had her own.
Myla swallowed, trying to push down the lump in her throat. Ish met her head on, he didn’t allow her to claw and shove away. He remained steady and pushed her when she tried to retreat. She hated him for it… yet it was why she had a child with him as well. Ish didn’t breed failures, Myla didn’t fuck them either. Or so she told herself.
“We came here to be gods,” she murmured, no longer pushing to get out of his hold. “Yet now that they are all bowing to whims… he still leaves. Still goes after the others.” Others being the damn canaries. She remembered Bryce showing up there, as well as their son who lived within the Eldouir palace. “We won’t be enough. Ever. So what’s next? Because I certainly miss the finery of Loren.”

He watched her movements and how her face reacted or betrayed those little emotions, was it scientific? Almost. He was the contrast of his brother Hiram who was devoid of any human or Gifted feelings or emotions, where Ishmael had them and he used his to study and manipulate in the smallest of ways. Call it selective emotion replication.
"Big brother has never been a bigger picture man," he replied still watching, seeing between the lines of the term "Others", "but if going back for the birds of Loren is his prerogative then cousin...he'll end up with a lot of dead fucking birds...their not like us, no Gifted alive is like us. Nothing really," a light chuckle randomly escaped him, "Is like us. I don't plan on going back ever. I like it here."
Ish was so very different. Perhaps that’s why she had only selected Hiram and him to have children with. Hiram and herself had a destructive relationship at best. Ish? He offered something she could barely comprehend. Yet it was nothing like… a flash of blonde entered her mind and she turned to look down the hall where their daughter had disappeared.
“Never?” She asked, as if his answer was one she had to hear repeated. “You would…” she laughed then, a smirk on her lips. “Of course you like it here,” she turned those eyes up to him. “All the animals.” As if it was the easy answer.

Ish was still grinning, "Never," and he found comfort in his confidence on the subject, "You couldn't tempt me with the promise of twelve blonde canaries scalps, animals are loyal at least...."
Ish knew about Myla and Remiel, had for years, through his Royal court (his rats) they spied on them. Hiram and Bryce. Myla and Remi. It was a cosmic joke and perhaps one Ish never understood...Gifted unity..he spat on the idea, there was Eldouir and everyone else to taint the blood. The power.
"Plus when Hiram takes Lorendale back, someone would have to govern the estate of a Eldouir Empire," Ishmael bragged, "Avery would love it, and it would be hers one day..."
