The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

[For @iliana]
Scout had spent a long time in her new office the previous evening to get familiar with the documents that were left behind by lady Saelim, She had read through paperwork about previous cases similar to Oriana's, and also about Oriana herself. She didn't have the registry in her possession yet, but the documents contained information about Oriana's Gift and what exactly had happened that day in the room after the address, as stated by multiple witnesses, including Scout's own. Unbeknownst to everyone, except Remiel, Oriana hadn't beem completely honest about her abilities. It stated that she was capable of healing bones, not that she was capable of breaking them. Scout suspected that there was more to it, because Remiel had said Oriana could do things to bones.
Oriana's attacked had seemed to be directed at both Cassian and Regan. There were definitely grave consequences to that. It was high treason to attempt to harm the monarch, and Scout would take that into account.
The newly appointed Advisor of Law made her way over to the office in which Iliana normally would be. She had prepared facts and opinions to advise the queen on a correct sentencing. She knocked on the door and would wait to be let in.
She was indeed in her office. Perhaps a different scene to walk into than any time before for Scout. The Queen sitting not at her desk but a small tea table and chair, an empty one across from her. But much closer without a desk between them. Tea rested on a platter, with honey and sugar, two tea cups. Her own was half empty and a small finger sandwich between her fingers.
Her face lifted, nodding to the guard within as it was October’s time off. She insisted he take time for himself this day. The guard would open the door and she’d wave to Scout to answer. “Just in time for tea,” she gave a smile and would finish the bit she had in hand before delicately wiping her mouth. “Help yourself,” she offered. She had made sure they had enough for them both.
As she had already given one to her guard within the room before Scout’s arrival. Sometimes… Iliana’s kindness outweighed her proper training.

Since their last conversation, the bond between Iliana and Scout seemed to have changed for the better. Scout definitely felt more secure and certain about Iliana's abilities as a queen, and their honest conversation and elevated some of her concerns. They seemed more friendly with one another, and less like their relationship was purely professional. At least, to Scout it felt like that.
Scout was allowed to enter and saw the queen sitting in a chair with tea and finger sandwiches. She smiled at the young woman and took a seat. "I do love a cup of tea", she responded as she poured tea into her cup and added some sugar. Then she would take a sandwich.
After she had swallowed a bite, she wiped her mouth gently and politely. "These are very delicious", she said with a little smile. Some polite small talk before they would delve into political, law issues. She didn't mind it one bit.
The moment Scout came in, Iliana eased and smiled. Something a little more carefree than ones she was trained to have in the public eye. Not that she didn’t slip plenty to allow a wide grin of amusement to show. Even after everything, she hadn’t quite lost that warmth… the flicker of light within her.
“It’s one of the few things I can stomach as of late,” she huffed her laugh, reaching for another one and looking at it. Very basic cucumber sandwich, a peppermint tea. She waited a moment before her gaze lifted to Scout. She waited a heart beat, and decided that if they were friends, she shouldn’t hold back. Finding out through other means was more insulting. “My sickness caught me off guard, and I know it didn’t help many things. But apparently this pregnancy is one that is going to be trying and testing my resolve.” She held her breath.
The day that Scout and her had decided to trust one another, scout had shared something personal. Something that left Iliana leaving out the reasoning behind her sickness, out of respect. “I wanted to tell you before the court caught wind and told every stone in the palace,” she said with a small laugh.

Scout couldn't speak because she had just taken a bite out of her sandwich, but she placed a finger over her mouth as her eyes widened. The mention of a pregnancy had caught Scout just as off guard as the sickness had taken Iliana off guard. After she had swallowed the bite, she smiled at the queen. "A pregnancy! Congratulations, your majesty. I'm so happy for you." It hurt, yes, but Scout was genuinely happy for the queen. "Although I am sorry to hear that it's going to be a difficult one." She didn't want to pry and ask why it would be difficult.
She also appreciated that Iliana wanted to tell her before the news spread through the palace and reached Scout that way. She wasn't obligated to tell her, of course, but it was still nice that it could be shared as happy news between two friends-in-progress. "Have you told prince Cass yet?" Declan would probably be too young to understand what a sibling meant, but Cass was already becoming a big boy. Sometimes kids could have difficult reactions to getting a new sibling, because they didn't quite know what it meant, or they didn't want to share their parents' attention.
