The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

[ Made for noble company; I’ll tag which characters on discord! ]
It was the end of the third day of their journey. They weren’t too far from Cambria, but it would also be some days more. Their pace was comfortable but also picking up. They had a task on this tour, after all.
Dinner had been served and a meeting was called immediately afterwards. Guards lined the outside, and within, besides the nobles, stood @alys and Regan Lassiter, there to be eyes and ears and nothing more unless the king should call on them.
A circle of chairs was in the center of the meeting tent. Cassian sat in his kingly position. Everyone had already arrived [no need to do entrance details!].
“I want to be clear,” Cassian began, starting this off by getting to the point, “about why I invited you all in this tour. Cambria and Coheed have been territories of Nevermere for some years now, yet some would argue that they are no more a part of this kingdom than they were before. Nevermere had prospered, yes, but now it is my goal to see us truly united under one banner. Not as Nevermereans, Coheedsmen, and Cambrians, but as one people. I understand this may take generations to see fulfilled, but my goal is to start making the necessary changes now. All of you,” his eyes flickered over the nobles, “are key parts of Nevermere in one way or another. For some, it is your family’s history. For others, it is how you serve now to make our kingdom great.” Those he spoke of knew where they fell.
“My request is this: observe. Question. Learn. At the end of this tour, great changes in these territories will be made. I invite you all to have a heavy hand of input in the changes.” He fell silent then, giving them a moment to digest and the opportunity to speak if they felt led.

A meeting. Very curious. Ibrahim wondered what it would be about, and he would soon find out. He made his way over to the tent in which they were supposed to meet, with other nobles on his heels. He would be the first to enter and take a seat.
Truly united. A lot of fancy words. Observing would be no problem. Ibrahim wouldn't just be observing Coheedsman and Cambrians, but also the king and the Nevermereans themselves. He needed to know their weaknesses, if he ever wanted to take the rightful place on the throne. Whether it was him or a family member. Just anyone but Cassian.
The man nodded and didn't say anything in response to what the king said.

Vesper listened intently as the King spoke, explaining his reason for this tour far more than he had before. She wondered if there was a reason why this wasn't explained when they were first invited but it hardly mattered in the long run. She glanced around the room, watching the faces of the others who were given this news and cast a quick glance over to @alys, smiling at her friend with a little wink should the woman glance her direction. Her gaze also lingered on Regan Lassiter. Hadrian had told Vesper what Regan had done to Alys and as such she was suspicious of the woman and alert to the dangers she could pose to those around her.
She looked back to the King before she spoke, "I think this is an excellent goal, your Majesty," she replied. "We've seen early signs of this working with even members of your guard," she said, thinking of the Coheedsman, Isaac. "I know that I, personally, am looking forward to seeing what thoughts come out of this tour on how to implement such a thing. Becoming truly united can only serve to benefit us all." It wasn't much as far as substance as much as it was a simple agreeing of how this would look. How incredible would it be to see them all working together as one people. Not as Nevermerens, Coheedsman, and Cambrians, but all as one unit.

Keelan had grandeur dreams, Nevermere had its military might and it was one of beauty of course no kingdom rivaled it, but what else could it have? The greatest trading empire. Master of Trade was a title Keelan Morrigan sought, did it exist? No but he would see to it the King believed in the Morrigan name enough to see the title made. Keelan waited for Lady Vesper to speak before he added his noble word, "Thank you your Majesty for bringing me on this tour of your growing empire, she's a beaut, and while I believe full heartedly that you can bring these territories into the fold through military night alone I'd like to point out what you can gain through trade," he shifted comfortably in his seat, "Untapped resources will be a boon for Nevermere..mining...fishing...spices...but think of the trade and trades we can supply these people of your kingdom your Majesty, this will be my goal on this tour to showcase exactly what the Keelan Morrigan Company can bring to he table in the world of trade."
Cam sat perfectly erect, clothes freshly pressed and hair neat, jaw shaved, boots shining. He had spent hours preparing for this meeting, barely eaten at the meal to make sure he avoided the possibility of mess or embarrassment. He knew he was here as a servant of the kingdom, not for his title or the reputation of his family, so he sat at the opposite side of the circle from the king--not directly across, that was too presumptuous--leaving plenty of seats for the more honorable nobles to sit closer to the king.
The unfortunate thing about that decision was that it meant his face was readily on display as he reacted to the king's words. One people. Dismay coursed through him. The king must be under some spell, bewitched by a foreign magician to make this kind of sickening declaration. There was no change of oneness with lesser beings. These barbarian nations had nothing to offer Nevermere except the resources of their lands and the labor of their people.
He struggled to make his face expression as the king finished speaking, and he took a deep, consoling breath as a few of the higher-born nobles spoke. Heavy hand. Yes, there was something to cling to in the king's perplexing words. A heavy hand was the only way to subdue and conquer these people, but the end goal could not be integration. Domination was the best these animals could hope for.
Cam let a few of the higher-born nobles speak first, holding back a scowl when the Morrigan gave his pitch. Personal feelings had no place in the king's court.
"To the heavy hand of the king," he said, eyes sliding over the foreigners in the circle.

Cassian took in each noble that chose to speak, noticing the differences. He hadn’t selected his attendees of this tour blindly. He had done his homework on each. Regardless of their thoughts of him, he knew each had something valuable to offer Nevermere. At the end of the day, that was all Cassian was.
With everyone in agreement, or at least seemingly so, that was that.
They could either speak, or the meeting could end.
