The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
[ Made for Florina Bellerose - before the Eldouir’s have been spotted in Lorendale ]
Things have been swirling in her head since her coming back from the earliest signs of pregnancy. Not that many others knew yet. Cassian did, a healer that was sworn to secrecy that kept her as the on-call healer to the royal family. A few others. But soon… it’d make sense.
Yet of all the conversations that were had, October’s stuck out in the moments she had of peace. It haunted her as she laid her head down to rest… and plagued her in her fitful sleep. It crafted dreams and nightmares. So she called upon who she had been told was her new gifted advisor.
Nerves had made her unable to sit at her desk, instead, when Florina would arrive, she’d find the Queen in front of the window, turning to her. Only October Montgomery stood in the room with them, following Florina into the room and closing them within. “Lady Florina Bellerose. I hope you have been well in the weeks since I’ve seen you.”

The magic may originate from a living thing or from an object, it does not matter. There is no restriction to the kind of magic that the user can detect. The weakness is the spatial awareness limitation, and while the user can detect the presence of magic, they cannot detect the specific kind of magic being used.

Florina had never had an audience with the queen before…not counting the time where she’d been turned into a sheep and then forced to reveal the gift that she’d hidden from everyone her whole life. But there she was, walking through the palace about to speak with the queen herself. If she hadn’t been anxiously anticipating this meeting, it would have all been very surreal.
She’d dressed carefully that day. She’d chosen a deep green gown and had had her maid coil her hair up around her head. She tried not to wring her hands as she tread down the hall, very conscious of October Montgomery at her back. She reminded herself that she only needed to remain calm and listen to what the queen wished of her. She was the queen, but also a relative by marriage…well her aunt’s marriage to the queen’s uncle. Did that make them cousins of a sort? The thought made her feel less timid of the whole situation, so she gripped onto it. Cousins.
She entered the room and gave the queen a perfect curtsey, “I have been very well, Your Majesty, thank you,” she felt that familiar prickle down her back. There was magic in the room, and it radiated off of the queen. Strange. She did not know that the queen was Gifted. She tried to keep the confused furrow out of her brow, “I hope you have also been faring well?” She asked, almost distractedly. No, she was certain that the queen was not supposed to be gifted…

October was well aware of the reason why Florina was being called in to meet with the Queen. He didn't always know but in this case he'd been part of the discussion with Iliana about her concerns. He sincerely hoped that things went well but was a bit nervous as to what would be found out.
He remained as still and quiet as ever, watching but keeping a distance so as not to be too intruding upon the pair. (Feel free to skip me in post order unless October is addressed, I'll plan to pop in periodically)
Her nerves were jumping wildly in her chest, her heart mimicking them with its irregular rhythm. Things might be very different from now on. With Cassian on tour, with a pending trial… she had delayed this a little more than she should have. But she needed to be a queen… talk to a new member of her royal cabinet… and ask some questions she wasn’t sure she was ready to face yet.
“Much better, thank you,” she gave a small smile and gestured to the seat in front of her. “Please, no need to remain standing.” She’d wait till the woman sat before she’d shift in her seat. A very small movement, but one that October would catch without a doubt.
“I first want to congratulate you on becoming the Gifted Advisor. I am sorry it took so long to properly meet,” though nothing terribly long, “But Lady Kane had many good things to say, and I am eager to see someone back in the role.” Honora had been the last one… and how that still saddened her to this day. They had never found her, after she asked around, and now her royal guard was gone as well.

Florina sat in the chair and smoothed her skirts over her lap more out of nervous energy than anything else. So far so good. The queen wasn’t yelling at her, nor did she appear put out. To Florina, Iliana appeared to be quite calm, and that composer only helped the countess’ own nerves settle.
“Thank you,” a small smile, “I will try to fulfill my role in a way that will be for the benefit of all,” truly, it was a daunting task, but she had accepted it and it would not do if she did not at least try to smooth the ire that had arisen lately.
“Your apologies are quite unnecessary, Your Majesty,” she thought of all the whispers and rumors buzzing around Loren. Florina tried not to pay attention to gossip. After all, it was difficult to discern which were fact and which were vicious fiction. Besides, the queen appeared to be quite well to Florina, “I’ve heard that you have been occupied with many things after the incident.”
”You have a lot of support here to help you be successful. Make sure you ask for council within the Royal Cabinet when needed. Lady Scout Kane will be your greatest resource and closest that you work with. I have no doubt in her, and by extension, I have faith in you.” Doubts were different than faith. And she did have faith Florina would flourish.
Iliana dipped her chin in confirmation that she had been quite busy after everything. She certainly had. And she had many questions. “I have. And as much as I would have wanted today’s meeting to be strictly welcoming you and asking what you may need… I do have an ask.” Her eyes almost wavered to October Montgomery. He might have seen how she shifted as if she would look to him, being so in-tune to her… but she forced herself to stay focused on Florina.
She took a deep breath, her hands smoothing her skirts. “I would ask that you use the utmost discretion on this, for the time being. As I am still… unsure and trying to navigate… this.” Green eyes lingered on the woman. “You are able to detect gifts or magic overall? You knew in the room when the King’s Huntsman was attacked that it was Oriana…”

“I’ll be sure to speak to the Royal Cabinet,” she agreed, “And I am glad of your confidence in me, Your Majesty. I will try my best to meet your expectations.”
She listened to the queen, watching her as she did so. She seemed unsure of something, although of what, Florina did not know. When the queen started to ask her question, Florina could not help but furrow her brow just a little as she tried to guess what the question was, “From what I have noticed, I can detect all magic, not just the magic of the gifted,” she thought back to that day, “I knew the moment Oriana started to use her magic, and to whom,” guilt filled her again as she thought of her oldest friend. But Oriana had chosen her path, and Florina had acted. It was done, “and that her magic touched the king’s neck. I knew that the fire that filled the room was created through magic—from the huntsman I believe,” everything had happened fast, but Florina had had time to sort through the happenings of that day.

October didn't move from his spot but he watched the Queen carefully. He knew how worried she was about this and he could only hope that Florina could provide good news. He noticed every moment in Iliana that showed discomfort or insecurity. He noticed the moments in which it seemed she wanted to look to him but wisely chose not to. So while he didn't act, he did what he could to provide a sense of security and comfort to Iliana. He was there, supporting her in this and every other moment. All would be well. He had to believe that.
