The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

Akagi had left the key to Elena's underwater prison in her possession while he was away, and while she wasn't proud that she was going to break his trust the way she was about to, Cordelia was extremely pleased with how things had turned out. She didn't know about his agreement with Cassian, or anyone, really. They hadn't really spoken since they had visited Elena together, and that's why Cordelia decided she had to act on her own. It was easier to ask forgiveness than permission, although she did realise what she was about to do could cost her.
The older woman took the key on a necklace from under her blouse and unlocked the door that would lead to the ship. She took a deep breath and clutched her bag closely to her chest. She had everything she required to bring this to a good end.
The door opened and showed the prison on the other side. With an elegant step, Cordelia stepped through the door and into the prison. There, it wouldn't take long before the Peacekeepers approached her and led her to Elena Eldouir. Her bag was hidden under het coat, so nobody could ask any questions.

This was getting to be sooooo boring! Day after day after day in the darkness of the deep sea with no one interesting to even keep her company. Part of her wondered where her family was. Surely they were trying to find her, weren't they? Still, this was a rather good hiding place, she had to admit.
It was with this mentality that she eagerly sat up when something even remotely interesting happened. Like a visitor. She stood from her bed this time and moved over towards her cell, her hands wrapping around the bars of her cage. "You again," she commented. "Didn't get your fill last time?" she asked though she was smiling, just happy to have someone to talk to to break up her endless days.

The Peacekeepers led her through doors and rooms until they were in the room where Elena was caged. Seeing Elena in her cage made Cordelia's heart beat faster. It was terrifying and exciting to be here, knowing what she knew, and what Elena didn't. The nonchalant question said more than other words could have. Elena was just happy to see somebody. Anybody. If her hair had been a different colour, Cordelia might have felt sympathy for her, but she didn't.
She smiled weakly and shook her head at the question. "No, I didn't know what to ask then, but I do now." She pulled up a chair and sat down, out of reach, but so she could see Elena. She looked at the guards and waved her hand. They nodded and left the room.
She looked back at Elena. "What can you tell me about your Gift, Elena?"

Elena watched the old lady sit down but she remained standing, draping her arms through the bars casually. She was annoyed by the question. Wasn't there anything better to talk about? After all, these people were her enemies. Everyone was.
"And why should I tell you that?" Sure, it would have been easier to just answer the question but when had Elena ever made things easy when it was more fun to make it a challenge.
Post by Cordelia Olivarius on Mar 7, 2024 13:37:45 GMT -5
It was a fair question, because there really wasn't a reason as to why she should tell Cordelia what her Gift could do exactly. They knew the general aspect of it, but not the details.
She smiled softly and shrugged. "I thought it might be nice to discuss the things that make you you. It allows me to get to know you." She looked at her hands in a nonchalant way and added: "Or I could make it worth your while. You know, I don't like keeping friends away from their family."
She looked back up at Elena, a sparkle in her eyes.

Elena did like talking about herself but that didn't mean she was a fool, she wasn't going to just open up about everything there was to know about her to people who could use that information against her and her family.
However, an offer of an arrangement was far more intriguing and that was clear in her expression as she looked down at Cordelia. "...I'm listening."

Listening wasn't as good as answering, but it could lead somewhere, so Cordelia was already satisfied with it. It was a start. The woman could see that Elena's interest had been piqued and that she was willing to hear her out.
"I propose an arrangement. You tell me about your Gift, and I become old and forgetful and somehow leave your cage unopened. I open a door to Dresmond, or Lorendale, and you escape. I pretend you overmastered me." She smiled again. "Now I can hear you wondering why, so let me put it like this. Your family is the most powerful family out there. Me knowing about your Gift won't make me nearly as powerful as you, but it gives me a little bit of advantage. You get to reunite with your family, and fight the good fight again. I have something to work with, and we can get back to fighting each other out there, instead of in here or on trial."

Elena's heart began to race. This could be her ticket out of here, for real. She was about to ask why but the woman answered that too. It seemed too good to be true but what could Elena do? She was quite literally stuck in a cage and this would give her a guarantee of survival. Something that a trial would not do, even if her family was there to rescue her. A trial would mean death and destruction, whether hers or other people's. This...this was the best option.
Still, as excited as she was by the prospect, she just needed to be sure. Or as sure as she could be. "How do I know that you'll actually follow through? That you won't just leave once I give you the information you want?" she asked, unable to hide the near desperation in her eyes for this to be real.

Cordelia sighed dramatically and her shoulders slouched a little. "I know you were going to ask that, and honestly? I don't know how I can prove to you that I'm speaking the truth."
She scratched her arm and placed a finger on her lips while thinking. "Maybe context would help? I'm not old, but I'm older. I don't have too long, but during the time I have lived already, everything has been dull and boring. For heaven's sake, even our military is called the Peacekeepers! I don't want to die without having seen true chaos in Terra Nova. Your family is the only family that can create that, and I just want to help."

Cordelia was certainly saying all the right things, relating to Elena in ways that the younger woman couldn't help but thrive off of. Cordelia was offering her everything. Freedom and chaos all at once. A life filled with excitement instead of boredom. Boredom of being locked in this cage. Boredom in ruling as kingdom as dull and dirty as Dresmond. Elena wanted to live, truly live, even if that was short term. Better to have someone take her out in an epic battle than locked in a cage, right?
A slow smile crept up her face and she nodded. "Alright. I can move things with my mind. Anything. Big or small. It's all under my control. As my power grew it started to change. Those things I could move became things I could change. A volley of arrows into feathers. Solid ground into quicksand," she smirked at the memory of the thing that had caused her to be caught. It was a simple explanation of course, she wasn't trying to paint a picture, she was simply trying to give the woman the information she had to in order to get herself out of this mess. How proud would Hiram if she didn't need to be rescued? If she managed to escape all on her own.

She listened in awe as the woman described what she could do. It was even more than she had imagined. "Oh, beautiful", she said, smiling at the woman. "The chaos that could cause..." She seemed to be almost overwhelmed by it. "Thank you for sharing, Elena. I truly appreciate it."
She got up from the seat and placed her bag on top of it. "Now, let's get you out of here. I don't have a solution for that collar, but I'm sure your family will be able to help with that." She kept looking at Elena a little longer before opening her bag and rummaging through it. "In order to open that door, I need to read from a book", she explained as she took a book from her bag. "It's a unique kind of enchantment that is voice activated." Cordelia looked back at Elena with the book in her hand. "Ready?"
Post by Elena Eldouir on Mar 7, 2024 14:19:23 GMT -5
Elena's hands moved to wrap around the bars once more, Cordelia had her full attention. Her fingers lightly moved over the collar around her throat and she nodded. She hadn't expected the woman to be so careless as to remove it anyway. Unleashing Elena's power in this small space with just the two of them in the room was excessively dangerous and Elena couldn't blame her for that.
She had left out the part about her magic that she could also change her appearance but she imagined it wouldn't be challenging information to find out after what had happened in the incident that brought her here.
She nodded eagerly. "I understand, yes, I'm ready." Her eyes were bright with excitement and hope. She was really going to get out of this place. "I'll remember what you did for me," she promised Cordelia. Should they meet again, perhaps Elena would spare her, or at least offer her the same kind of out that she was offering to her now.

Cordelia opened the grimoire and smiled at Elena when she said she was ready, and that she would remember what she had done for her. Her heart was still beating fast, but now for just a second, it also hurt. Not physically, but because she had managed to put on such a good show and tell such good lies that the poor Eldouir fool had believed her. Desperation led to one's darkest moments. She imagined herself on the other side of those bars, wrapping around them in excitement, and it gave her a lump in her throat. Yet one good look at that red hair removed all of those feelings of sympathy and pity.
The older woman started to read from the grimoire. Whether they were words that were comprehensible or not for Elena, she wouldn't be able to do much from behind those bars and in that collar. As Cordelia spoke the words and lines, a yellow glow started to surround Elena, a glow only an enchanter could see. She was going to harvest a hundred percent of Elena's soul, which would leave her completely as a shadow of her former self, a husk, if you will. Cordelia kept reading, and the yellow soul started to flow from Elena's chest towards the Arynnite. Farming a whole soul took time, and she would need to read for another few minutes. She kept her eyes fixed on the words and didn't look up to look at Elena. She wasn't sure she wanted to see the life and soul slip from her. As long as she was reading, Elena would stay alive, but she would start to feel weaker and weaker.

Enchantments were odd and Elena didn't understand them. Arynn Frey was pretty secretive and she'd never bothered to ask how their magic really worked. So she just listened to the nonsense words that Cordelia spoke. She couldn't understand them at all, nor did she notice when a yellow glow started to surround her.
She noticed when she started to feel tired and when that tired feeling began to turn into weakness. It wasn't a weakness that was external or physical. She felt no need to sit down nor did she struggle to breathe. It was purely internal, like something being lost. "What- what is happening?" she asked, her voice growing softer. "Stop...stop." She tried to reach through the bars towards Cordelia but it lacked conviction and the woman was too far out of reach. "Please-"
Post by Cordelia Olivarius on Mar 7, 2024 14:52:06 GMT -5
The pleas went ignored, although it wasn't easy to do so. Cordelia spoke louder, trying to block out Elena's voice, which worked for the most part. While continuing to read, the woman reached into her bag and grabbed a crystal, more specifically a diamond, to which the soul started to flow. She was almost at the end of the last page, and by now, Elena would most likely be to weak to even formulate sentences. Only a few more words. While saying those, she did look up, and in her eyes was a mixture of victory and sadness. Elena had chosen to be the way that she was, but Cordelia couldn't help but pity her. This wasn't a glamorous death. It wasn't even technically a death. She would stay alive, but she would be as good as dead. There would be nothing left in there. The lights would be on, but nobody would be at home.
Now that she was done reading, she slowly closed the grimoire and placed it back in her bag. She then carefully put thr crystal back as well before turning towards the cage to see what she had caused.
