The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

Arynnite armor: The armor have two states: active and inactive. When inactive, they look like little more than ornate metal bracers, easily ignored. When triggered, the armor covers Tybalt and serves as an exoskeleton. It will protect its wearer from physical damage and is practically indestructible.
The armor has a certain "preprogrammed" purpose which is to protect its host. To do so, it reacts to heightened emotional states such as fear and anger, at which point the armor will trigger regardless of whether or not Tybalt wants it to or even if he's immediately aware of the threat. It has some degree of awareness and sentience although very basic and one which struggles to differentiate between enemies and friends. Whilst not actually in possession of a will, the armor can guide or direct its host in a specific action, much like a reflex.
The armor needs to be "fed" as Tybalt has discovered meaning that he must hold and absorb through touch certain metals such as steel, copper, iron and tin, a process which takes a few minutes. Without which, the armor will begin to weaken and become less effective until no longer able to manifest.
Perhaps its greatest weakness is that if being consistently bashed or beaten, it would begin to repair itself by using parts of the armor from elsewhere. For instance, if the wearer is being consistently hit in the chest, the armor will begin to pool away from other parts of their body such as the feet and hands, leaving them vulnerable.
Tybalt was calming down a little. How much of that was to do with Honora's gift lingering within the confines of his mind, and how much of it was simply the realization of what had happened settling in. The commander began to walk, putting some distance between themselves and the throne room. He assumed that Augustus Rainecourt would follow.
He wouldn't react immediately to Augustus' statement, instead, the commander allowed the words to hit their mark. The commander felt exhausted all of a sudden. So much so, that he no longer cared to guard his words as he spoke. "Whilst I understand why you would want that..." He too wished the queen far away from the threat of the Eldouir. It was a luxury however that many wouldn't be so fortunate as to be able to benefit from. "It might well cost her the crown though." Iliana already had a reputation as "do nothing" monarch. For her to be away whilst the kingdom was at the hands of their enemy might well be seen as desertion during their time of greatest need.

The further they moved from the throne room, the more the calm Honora had spread faded. Augustus moved from panic to rage and frustration—shame, even, that the Eldouir had returned and they were so far unopposed. Their power had been a plague that Lorendale had been mercifully free from. They’d been foolish, foolish, he thought, to not over-prepare for their return. How could they possibly assume the devils would stay in the godforsaken land of Dresmond forever?
“I know Iliana better than perhaps anyone on Terra Nova. Believe me when I tell you—she is not prepared for this. She is not a woman of action,” Augustus chuckled a little, shaking his head, “Let us hope for Lorendale’s sake that you and I are made of stronger metal.”
Augustus would begin making his way to his office, calling upon a guard so that he might deliver instructions to the staff.
“The Eldouir are to have their needs met, but no more,” Augustus instructed, “The staff should keep the interactions to a minimum. If there are any problems…come to me immediately. No one should suffer harm simply because they find the food not to their liking.” The venom in Augustus’s voice could not be mistaken.
“On the bright side,” Augustus said in a voice low enough for only Tybalt to hear, “At least we know where we have them. It’s a gilded trap, but let’s hope a trap nonetheless.”

Tybalt had known Iliana for a long time. He'd watched her grow up. As such, he knew, even though he wished he could have contradicted the duke, that Augustus was right. The young queen had struggled in times of peace, this, a state of occupation, and quasi-war would be too much for her. They would have to deal with the fallout from that, as and when, but for the time being, she was safest away from the Eldouir. Others would have to take over until the thread had passed. "Cassian will return soon. We'll have to coordinate whatever happens next with him. He won't tolerate the Eldouir staying here, not for long."
Cassian hoped to sit his son on the throne. That wouldn't happen with Hiram around.
As Augustus began giving instructions to the staff, the commander would frown. "I suggest we send away all female members of staff. Keeping paying them their wages, but we can't ask them to risk being around Hiram. It's asking for trouble." The man had had wandering hands even before he was a criminal who thought himself near to a god.
The commander grumbled in response. It was an opportunity, he had thought of that much. "I can't imagine them wanting to give up Dresmond. They'll have to split their forces." Tybalt let out a sigh. "It's a weakness, but we'll need help if we're to exploit it. I had approached the queen some time ago with the hopes of working with Arynn Frey, and Nevermere to deal with the threat posed by the Eldouir. I would like to try to do so again... Quietly..." He stressed that last part, aware that ironically, the palace might well have become a hostile place.

Cassian. Augustus was always keenly aware that the foreign prince—now king—was too close to Lorendale’s throne for his liking. But with the Eldouir in the palace, Augustus couldn’t afford to ice out the greatest military power Terra Nova had ever known. They’d need the king before this was through, he was sure of it.
As for the commander’s first suggestion, Augustus nodded emphatically. It was a great idea. “We will see it’s done.” As for Arynn Frey, Augustus’s eyebrows raised. “I still have contacts and goodwill in Arynn Frey. I will send word to them at once. If the palace is where they want to stay, let’s make it into a prison. And then…” Collar the bastards. Kill the rest. Iliana had appeased the gifted for too long.

Tybalt thought about the matters carefully. The commander of the Royal Legion wished that he could command every man, and woman in his command into battle and end the threat immediately. They would have to be stealthy though. Hiram, and his ilk were not a threat to be underestimated. Time, and a great many scars had taught them that much.
"I used to be Cassian's right hand." Tybalt spoke the fact, as if Augustus would be oblivious to that much. "I might flatter myself that he might still be willing to listen to me on occasion. If you want to try and coordinate efforts with Arynn Frey, I will do what I can to work with Nevermere. Together, we might well be able to put an end to all of this." It was a hope. One which he dared to cling to.
"There's another problem of course: Honora. She can enter our minds. I see no reason why she couldn't get us to spit out our closest secrets. That will include any plans we might come up with to deal with our guests. It might be something that our neighbors can help with." An enchantment, or maybe some witch's magic was about the only thing that Tybalt thought might have given them a chance to keep their private thoughts secret.

Augustus soured at the mention of Honora (and he was sour enough to begin with). How was it that the Allemeade woman had been allowed to be so close to his niece for so long? He wondered if he hadn’t been sent off to Arynn Frey, if things might have turned out differently for them all. Oh well. It was no use dwelling on what could not be changed.
That woman needed a collar around her neck. Sooner rather than later. She was too dangerous, otherwise.
“Indeed.” Augustus agreed, still moving through the halls toward his office. “Do you have much experience with her? The queen kept her close for so long…if there was a reason for her to turn against Iliana, perhaps there can be one to turn her back.”

Honora had been a part of the court for quite some time. She'd always been close to the queen. Maybe that was why the monarch was so reluctant to take any action one way, or another where the gifted were concerned. Whatever the case, it was clear that something, somewhere along the line had gone terribly wrong, and that it had involved a certain red haired family.
Tybalt shook his head. "I don't know exactly. She was always so kind, and compassionate whilst she was here... Something obviously caused her to change, but what I can't say. She could have helped us, if not stopped Hiram herself with her powers. Instead, she uses them against us." The man frowned. "I would suggest asking Remiel to try and talk with her, but I don' think that would achieve anything. She seems to have turned on him as well." It was with a frustrated sigh that the commander continued. "I wouldn't like to try factoring in a wild card like that to any of our plans. I don't know why she has sided with Hiram, but it was her own decision, and one that she has stood by twice now."

“Remiel Allemeade is out of the question,” Augustus said resolutely, “He too was implicated in potential involvement with the Eldouir. And not too long ago his fiancee committed a terrorist attack against the Crown. He is a gamble we cannot afford to make.”
“If we are to remain here anyway,” Augustus continued as they approached his office, “I should like for you to try and speak with her. Better to negotiate with her than with Hiram Elouir. Just…be careful.”

The commander's jaw would clench tightly when Augustus spoke of Remiel. He wanted to remind the Prince that the Allemeade man had risked his life on more than one occasion for the kingdom. He fought back any comments, it made no sense to start fighting now.
Tybalt wanted to say: "WHY ME?!" He didn't much care for the idea of trying to have a chat with Honora. He'd trusted her once. Allowed her close to the queen he'd watched grow up, and now she had turned on them with all of the care of a rabid dog. Still, he was a soldier, and he supposed there was some reason to have him rather than the prince. "I will be... It would still be prudent to look for some counter measures."
The commander continued to think things over: "I would advise removing anything from the palace that might conceivably be of use to them. The gifted registry should be sent away, and everything regarding our military. We should try to find a way to keep the government afloat, perhaps they can reconvene somewhere elsewhere." More thoughts raced through his head. "We also need to ensure that order is kept in the streets. Every single pocket picked, every woman assaulted, will be blamed on the Eldouir. Regardless of any proof."

“Agreed.” Making contact with Arynn Frey sooner rather than later was of the utmost importance. He hoped the years of goodwill he’d fostered would pay off.
“See it is done,” Augustus said, “I don’t know if you’ve made contact with your niece, but we should. Florina as well. In fact…” Augustus grimaced. “We should call a cabinet meeting. I have an apartment int he city that will allow us to keep a low profile. I’d like your wife to be present as well. If there was ever a time to rally the Marshals together in service of their kingdom, it’s now.”

Tybalt nodded. "I'll send a bird to Nevermere, and Felicity as soon as I can. Hiram and his ilk aren't fools, they will be expecting us to try something to get rid of them, and they will be ready. All the same, some caution is probably best. Our lives mean nothing to the Eldouir, if they think that they're better off without us, they will try and kill us." Truth be told, the commander wasn't entirely sure just why it was that he, and Augustus (at the very least) were still alive. Not that he was complaining...
"I would like to ask my mother, and the Kane troops to move the gifted under Remiel Allemeade's care someplace else, back down to the south. They would be safer there, and given that there isn't much love loss between Hiram, and Remiel, it would make them a less tempting target." It wouldn't keep them safe indefinitely if Hiram went for them, but it was certainly better than leaving them to fend for themselves alone.

No, they meant nothing. They were dogs that had turned on their masters—predictable in hindsight and disastrous in effect. Augustus nodded in agreement at moving the gifted and Remiel. He’d be happy to have the Allemeade as far from Loren as possible, truth be told. Beyond that, the plan did make sense.
“See it is done.” Augustus opened the door to his office and stepped inside. He’d beckon Tybalt in before closing it behind them. He went to the drawer and pulled the mirror that only he, Tybalt, and Annabeth knew of from its secret compartment.
“Show me Iliana Rainecourt.”
Iliana would surface. Her surroundings would clearly place her in Nevermere. She was alive, and visually at least, appeared to be unharmed. Physically, anyway. She was crying hysterically as maids tried to comfort her. She looked small. Fragile. More like a child than he’d seen her in some time. Reality started to sink in, before he said quietly.
“I rather fear, for now, we are on our own, Commander.” Could two men truly hold Lorendale together alone?

Tybalt had a long list of things which needed to be done, all of which were urgent. At the very least, the commander reasoned that he wasn't about to get bored any time soon. He watched Augustus out of the corner of his eye, his mind elsewhere as he tried to think through everything that needed to be done, and how he was going to go about it without losing his head.
He would pause as he saw the mirror being brought out. The commander drew closer so as to be able to see for himself just what had become of their queen.
The commander watched. There was some initial relief upon seeing the young queen still alive. Tears weren't something that the dead were capable of shedding. As he stared though, a sinking feeling began to take hold. "At least she is still alive, and she is safe right now..." Tybalt muttered in response. "-But she must stay in Nevermere." Iliana didn't have the stomach for what needed to be done. That meant they could expect no real hope from her.
With a sense of gravity, Tybalt took a step back. He'd seen everything he needed to see. "Well then, we had best get started."
