The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

Honora would sit in silence as Tybalt and Florina departed. She’d wait, seeking distance from the protection of the Commander before making her way to the gates where—ostensibly—Florina’s carriage would be waiting. It was easy enough to evade notice. Honora’s gift made it easy to bend the weak minds of those without magic to her will. There was no door that would be closed to her, no person to stand in her way. She was fixed on one target: the mind of the woman who had become her most recent fixation.
The hood of her black cloak pulled down over her face, she’d make for the stables outside of the palace gates. The tendrils of her magic reaching out as sensors, she’d reach for Florina—who she hoped would be waiting. The woman's magic would make it easy enough to sense Honora's magic and therefore anticipate her approach.
Magic Detection: The ability to detect magic. The user can judge magical aptitude, pinpoint magic being used within a mile vicinity, and even detect when potent magic has formerly been used in a space. The magic may originate from a living thing or from an object, it does not matter. There is no restriction to the kind of magic that the user can detect. The weakness is the spatial awareness limitation, and while the user can detect the presence of magic, they cannot detect the specific kind of magic being used.

Florina sat in the carriage, wrapped warmly in a velvet cloak, just as the commander had left her. Her hands folding and refolding themselves in her lap. This was probably the most foolish thing she’d done. She wasn’t the sort of woman to spend time with those who consorted with the enemy…then again, had she not recently been conversing—and fantasizing—with the leader of said enemy?
She wouldn’t have to wait long. Florina felt Honora’s magic long before the magic touched her mind. She hesitated, but not because she doubted the logic of the meeting. Did Honora mean to enter the carriage with Florina? Or should she exit the carriage?
In the end, she decided to open the door, and tried to send a thought back, a question, ”Are you joining me, or will I be joining you?”

“I, you.”
Honora opened the door to the carriage and slipped inside, taking up a place opposite Florina. It was only then that she dropped her hood, still looking like some sort of religious figure in her high-necked black dress with long sleeves. Not meant to entice, but rather it served to add to the mysticism that she’d surrounded herself with—unwittingly or otherwise.
She looked at Florina for a moment, her impossibly blue eyes softer than when they last spoke. Honora smiled a little, a sadness in the lines of her face, bringing her gaze to meet that of the woman opposite her.
“I’m glad you’ve come,” Honora said quietly, “Commander Zane is a noble man, but there is a connectedness between our kind that he will never understand. You feel it…don’t you?” It was half a question, half a statement.

Florina closed her eyes against the voice in her head, only opening them again when the carriage door opened. It was truly a phenomenon that she would never get used to. At least she didn’t appear in a pool of blood. The countess was far from ready to witness such a thing again.
“Indeed,” Florida agreed, although she wasn’t quite sold on some cosmic force connecting each of the gifted. To her, it was like finding out that you played the same instrument, or grew up in the same town, “It would be difficult to truly appreciate our end of the argument unless you are untrusted because of the way you were born, or…” she eyed the collar around Honora’s neck and recalled the vision of how she received the accessory, “…the one that may be shackled with one of those horrible things.”

Honora’s expression turned almost sheepish as Florina’s eyes went to the collar around her neck. Her fingers rose to touch it, running along the now familiar smooth, silver surface. Though she was getting used to the pain and discomfort of its presence, she never forgot it was there. Not for a moment.
“You might think me silly that I have not yet parted with such a ghastly thing,” Honora said, voice low and vulnerable, “But until Quinton Featherton is mine, I do not want them to forget. I want Lorendale to be reminded of what they will do to us if left to their own devices.” She smiled a little. “But maybe it perhaps it makes no difference.”
