This one-shot document's the discovery of The Seeker's Compass, Hadrian Usher 's Level 10 reward, which can be found in the Library of Enchanted Items.
The reconstruction of what was formerly Othello Allemeade ’s ship had neared completion. It was mostly cosmetic touches now—Nevermere’s finest woodworkers creating a masterpiece worthy of their king and the military they commanded. Hadrian had remained involved in the project. He understood what an asset the ship could be in Nevermerean hands.
He was at the docks, receiving a tour from the Naval Captain who had been put in charge of the project. Hadrian found himself strangely jealous as they tread the boards, reminded that not too long ago he was in the young officer’s position. What a joy the salt hair was. The uncertainty of the sea with its tempests and whipping wind. Hadrian missed it — oh how he missed it — particularly when life on shore was so draining.
“She’s a fine vessel that will serve us well,” the Captain concluded, ending with a tour of the captain’s quarters and office, “What we do with her, I leave in you and his majesty’s hands.” Hadrian smiled, looking about the cabin with his arms crossed over his chest.
“Well done, captain. You should be very proud,” Hadrian said (clearly he was proud himself). The captain accepted the compliment with a curt dip of his head, not allowing himself to enjoy it for too long before reaching into his pocket.
“There’s something else, commander, that was found in salvaging the enchantments and other materials from the ship. I thought it might be of interest…” The officer held out a small black box made of wood, worn smooth so that it glistened in the light. Hadrian flicked the lid open to reveal an ornate compass whose needle drifted lazily around its axis. He pinched his brow together, giving the thing a little shake so that it might right itself.
“Blasted thing doesn’t point north,” Captain sighed, “Still, thought it might be worth a little tinkering. There’s some writing on the back…” Hadrian flipped it over to see a gold inscription, so small it could almost not be read. This or that, near or farHe or she, wherever they areTo this compass, it will alignJust speak “I seek…” and ye shall find.
Hadrian ran his fingers over the text, pensive. “Keep this discovery between us, captain,” He said slowly, “I’m not sure what we’re looking at just yet.” The captain, ever his commander’s loyal servant, readily agreed.
“Will that be all, sir?” Still lost in thought, it took Hadrian a moment to respond.
“Yes, yes that will be all. Thank you, captain.” The soldier dipped his head again and took his leave.
“That will be all…” Hadrian snapped the compass closed and put it in his pocket.
