The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
Val thought about seeing her dad in his office and surprising him that way but she thought that it be a lovely surprise to him for him to come home to a nice prepared meal just her and him. She know that before she left for sea her and Keir asked for his blessing before she headed off. They didn't talk to much about it. Valeria knows that Keir been working very hard planning the wedding and all.
The dinner was all set and Val was waiting by the door waiting for his arrival, she was holding a gift in hand. she just hopes that he at least likes it as she wanted to give him something that represent them and their family and that she might being flying from the nest. She still his little minnow.

It had been a hellish couple of days. Hadrian had hardly slept, putting one fire out after another, praying for rain all the while. He’d left the castle later than he would have liked, galloping back to the Usher estate to take care of some more correspondence.
It never ended.
When Hadrian came inside, he smelled something delicious. Confused, he looked around and saw Valeria standing by the door. He broke into a broad, though weary, smile.
“What’s all this?” He went over and kissed Valeria on the head before stepping back to hear the answer to his question.

Val was getting impatient she thought that he would be here by now. She was starting to think that she would have to go out and look for him herself. However, when she heard that he was coming a wide smile formed on her face as she relaxed seeing him walking into their home.
"Surprise Dad." She smiled as she hugged him as he kissed her forehead. "the ship landed a day early than planned, and i knew the day I set out was a bit of a strange one with Keir and I ask for your blessing and all. So I thought i make you a meal, plus from looks of things you need it." She said softly seeing the weariness in his smile. Val is his daughter she notices these small things in him.
She poured them some wine and passed him a glass. "please sit."

The tension started ot unwind in his shoulders. Valeria likely had no idea how much this meant to him. Keir was a good man from a good family, who no doubt would treat her well. But he was giving up his little girl, letting her set sail into married life with no first mate of his own.
“Thanks, Minnow,” Hadrian sat with the wine, taking a drink and relaxing back in his seat, “So, how was your voyage? Smooth seas, I hope?”

Val poured her drink and she pulled something from the draws as she give a small smile as she walked over. "it was really well. smoothly as always. some of the greenies thought it was all fun and games but i sorted them out. explaining how we can have fun and games but there a time and a place to play them."
Val explained as she sat down in her chair next to him looking down at the gift. "daddy well I was out i saw this and thought of you when I saw it." She gave him about a A4-sized beautiful wrapped box. once unwrapped it showed a wooden anchor with a compass in the middle. there was a Mermaid like the one on her necklace on the bottom and Minnow jumping behind the compass.

“I’m sure you did,” Hadrian grinned, bursting with pride. Valeria had leadership potential. Where her mother had been a wilting violet, Valeria was a shining star. She was still young and had some ways yet to go, but he had no doubt that she would get there.
When offered the box, Hadrian’s brow raised in curiosity. He took it eagerly and opened it without delay. When the object inside was revealed, for a moment he was dumbstruck. It was beautiful—not only for its craftsmanship but for the meaning it contained. It was the mermaid tail, the one from the necklace he’d passed on to Valeria from her mother. A reminder of what he had lost, but also what he had gained.
He found himself frozen, stuck somewhere in a tangle of past, present, and future.

Vallia looked at him frozen and a single tear ran down her face. she hugged him tightly "daddy, I will always be your girl, just because I am becoming a delaney doesn't mean i am less of a Usher. I will always be here for you remember that." Val said softly in his chest.
It had always been them two, it going to be so hard to leave this house, not to see her daddy every single day when they was both on land. She know she can always visit and he was her commanding officer, but that not the same. He was his rock, the one thing she knew she could always rely upon."I want to make sure you okay? Will you be okay?"

For a moment, he thought to tell her about Kennet; about how he pined for her, about how he wanted more than anything to build a life with her like Valeria would with Keir. About how he felt he’d missed his chance, too busy caught up in fleeting dalliances to realize what he wanted: Her. But Hadrian swallowed the words, instead just hugging her tightly.
“I’ll be okay, Minnow,” Hadrian smiled, pulling away and brushing her tear from her cheek. “Maybe not tomorrow or the day after, but the day after that, I will be.”

Val looked at him "Dad, if there anything you taught me was how to be strong, but to become stronger you have have to ask for help and learn. I want you to tell me what on your heart dad. Please none of this I am fine nonsense you keep telling people. I've seen the amount of wine you've been drinking and it scares me. One day me and Keir might have children and I want them to meet their grandfather." She looked at him and she softly planted a kiss on his forehead.
"please open your heart to me and you know how stubborn i can get."

“Don’t concern yourself with such things,” Hadrian deflected firmly, but gently. “Your mind should be on your wedding and the future ahead of you. Let me trouble over my own past and present.”
Hadrian’s drinking was not up for discussion. He had a sense of humor about most things, but on this matter, he remained firm. A man was allowed his habits, and Hadrian was no exception. As if to prove a point, he moved into the dining room. "Now, let's see this grand dinner you've prepared."

Val looked at him and sigh softly rubbing her head. Can't a daughter be worried about her dad, the man who raised her. "Dad? I only ask because I love you. You know that right?" It was more like a plea. "Remember I'm a part of your history and present daddy." she followed into the dinning room. "Well i thought I would make you your favorite food. I also made your favourite pudding that we always had. Remember when I was about six years old we had a food fight and i smeered this all over your face. It took a while to get it out of your breed?" Val asked.

“I know,” Hadrian said, resigned with a sheepish smile. The memory of the pudding made him laugh and touch his beard, as if he could feel the crumbs in it still.
“You were such a mischievous little thing,” He chortled, pouring some wine and sitting down to dinner, “The maid was furious with the both of us.”

"were? you make it sound like I don't know how to have fun now." she sat down giving him a cheeky grin. She had became this fun loving confident woman. "I used to give the maids the run for their money. It was never a dull moment growing up. You've made even being scared of thunder and lightning a fun little game."

Hadrian laughed, remembering how they used to play ‘hide and seek’ from the rumbles of thunder and bursts of lighting. He shook his head, taking another sip of his wine.
“Never a dull moment. I wish Ora could have been there to see it.” Though part of him was grateful. For if Ora hadn’t died, he never would have gained Valeria as a daughter. It was a sad thought, but one earnestly felt.

Val smiled softly. "me to dad. I wish she was here to see us and everything we achieve together." she smiled. "she might be asking a million and one question about grandkids, how me and Keir meet? What i like most about him?" Val grinned.
