The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

(this thread takes place right after the Eldouir attack on the Arynn Frey Wall; Kimora LlewellynSylas Llewellyn @keion @bowen @calliope )
He had called for a cabinet meeting and was having everyone corralled there that needed to be there. The Crowned Prince had debated for the longest time on how to approach his Mother, The Queen of Arynn Frey, about stepping aside and letting Akagi usher in a new era of rule. The attack by the Eldouir was the tip of change the Prince needed, it shed so much light on fallices within Arynn Frey that no one could ignore. He was gathered in the Cabinet room with all current Cabinet heads, he had sent word out to @keion and his fellow supporters of change that attendance was mandatory. @bowen and @calliope were two surprisingly new allies he had garnered during the attack, Calliope and the remaining heads of their Peacekeepers core were also requested to attend (he would speak to @clovis following the results of the meeting).
Waiting in the cabinet room his actions and commands rippled further even, he had assigned delegates to assess damages around Arynn Frey and to retrieve their dead. Akagi had sent aids of support to the utterly destroyed Dresmondi camps and Illianar was a ground zero for medical support, but also to assist Hadrian Usher and his witches. Was he overstepping his boundaries? Most definitely, but he needed his people to see that someone within he Royal family was ready for a direct course of action. In the meantime it meant addressing the biggest issue of all: removal of Queen Kimora Llewellyn from the head of the table and installing himself as new King.
To some, Bowen's turn of support to the Prince might have seemed surprising. To those who knew him -- and sure, that was far and few between -- it was anything but. He had been a loyal Minister, doing the Queen's bidding. Removing all resistance in any form, be it for the royal family or the many questionable traditions of Arynnite society. Even if some of those things ran counter to his own beliefs, he had done them. Because she was the Queen, and ultimately what she wanted was what was best for Arynn Frey.
But she had been an absent queen for far too long, allowing others to run her kingdom for her. If that was to be the case, then it was best to let that happen more literally. With every new monarch came about change, and change was the best thing there could be. Without change, there was simply nothing new to learn.
So he stood in the cabinet room, his poleaxe still twirling in the air beside him, watching all the Ministers sans defense, and waited. When Prince Akagi showed up, he would bow. "I've gathered the other ministers as requested, my Prince. The Minister of Defense, however, is currently indisposed."
Keion had been in his own home within the city of Elyusian when the chaos had erupted. He had left only long enough to discover what had caused such an uproar in their so-called peaceful kingdom before returning to his home. He was certain there was only utter chaos going on at the palace and within the military, and his added presence would've only contributed to that chaos.
Still, he had pulled out his old cavalry gear and was pacing in his sitting room, waiting for whatever outcome, when a messenger had shown up at his door saying he'd be summoned to a mandatory meeting by the Prince. A multitude of reasons for such a meeting at a time like this ran through his mind as he pulled on his old boots and ran through the streets, zipping by frantic civilians as he headed for the palace.
Dropping to a more subdued pace as he entered the palace so he could catch his breath, he made his way to the cabinet room and slipped inside, nodding once at the Prince before taking up a position next to the door. He was not a member of the cabinet, not yet anyway, and therefore didn't want to encroach on their space unless asked.

When the cabinet meeting had been called Sylas had been with @kezia gathered with the rest of the royal family. When his presence was demanded he had considered bringing Kezia with him. Ultimately he had decided to find out what was going on before dragging her along. He did, however, offer her words of comfort and ask that she help comfort his younger sisters, if in part to help distract her from what might be happening at the dresmondi camp. There was nothing she could do there for the moment but he would be there at her side when there was.
He watched his brother with curiosity and concern. The current situation was not yet fully resolved yet the cabinet meeting had been called in the middle of it. What exactly was his intention he wondered.
The jaunt from where Calliope had been leading the military forces to the Cabinet room was rather quick and when she finally entered the room, it was with an unusually stormy expression on the woman's face as she strode in. The communication pendant that she kept in reach but usually put of sight was now blatantly visible on her shoulder where all she had to do was turn her head to speak into it easily. Her warhammer was held in a deceptively light grip, given that she had been holding it with a white-knuckle grip until very recently.
It was a quick scan of the room to note the key players without giving away anything behind the stormy expression on her face. With an appropriate nod to show respect to the crown prince Akagi Llewellyn and then to Sylas Llewellyn, she took up a decidedly neutral position in the room. If it allowed her a position to watch both @bowen and her brother @keion as well as Akagi to get a solid read as to just what was going on, then that was her business alone. She set her weapon down hammer to the floor and rested her hands upon the pommel, discreetly at the read should any tensions lead to a fight that needed to be disrupted.

Kimora was going to have to adequate. She knew that much. From one of the windows of the palace, she considered the smoldering remains of the wall that she had spent the past six years watching being built. Now what was left of it? Rubble. All that time, effort and planning gone in the space of a few hours. If that wasn't bad enough, there were the bodies to be taken into account. News was still reaching her of all of those that had lost their lives, so much so that she'd almost become deaf to them. Many, in fact most, she didn't know. The Dresmondi had lost one of their senators. He was a more familiar face. There would have to be some sort of an event to mark their passing and pay tribute to those who had lost their lives.
Then, there would have to be war.
Either that or they would have to tolerate a foreign power attacking them, slaughtering their people and those who had come to seek refuge here and destroying what they had built. No, that simply wouldn't do. Kimora trusted that those who came after her to deal with such issues.
For the time being, she focused on the present. The queen would arrive solemnly, saying nothing as she entered into the room. Her gaze quickly finding her sons, focusing more specifically on Akagi. The woman sat down steadily in her chair, it would seem that she was about the last to arrive.

Akagi stood in the center of the room as those he had requested flooded the cabinet room, report by report of updates came and went the Prince noting each to memory the current task alone was going to be long and very exhausting for everyone. Akagi was focused on the now and future fixing the broken heap of the Eldouir destruction. With his Mother's arrival Akagi gave his Mother her due respect as the Queen with a bow, but his face didn't hold joy or happiness it was stone. Mouth pressed into a hard line.
"I appreciate everyone's prompt arrival, today has been hard and I fear harder still in the days to come," he was loud and clear with his words as he addressed everyone in the room, "For the first time in a very long time we were tested today and let me say with very heavy burden on these words: we failed miserably. We failed our people, and the peoples of Dresmondi that sought safety here. Communication was poor. Our state of Peacekeepers though surely equipped were caught like deer in the path of a arrow...I've been asking myself where did it begin? Six years ago with the beginning of the walls construction? No I thought about it, further back perhaps when we failed to see the Eldouir as the threat they truly are? When we denied the Dresmondi true aid? Again, no. Further back yet when Arynn Frey decided we were too good to bother with other worldly problems?"
Akagi spoke and looked upon every face in attendance, even the Queen, and he threw out his very high accusations.
"We won't ever know because we've become so complaint with our ways and today it cost us lives, it cost us a loss of confidence in our cabinet...in our Queen...Peacekeepers...and our logic. But today we will resolve this shortcoming and I hope give us a solution to our situation," Akagi turned from the Cabinet to his Mother, "I have called this cabinet meeting for a reason, before we can move on I fear we must resolve this lack of confidence by moving on with a new direction for Arynn Frey: I am requesting your Majesty for your abdication from the throne, for failure of responsibility of duties to your sovereign people. I believe you have lead to your true potential Queen Mother and for a fresh start we can not hold onto the old ways, I'm calling the cabinet to support my claim to the vote of no confidence in the current ruling Queen...."

Out of respect for her eldest, the queen allowed him to finish. She felt more tired now than she had done in a very long time. Perhaps it was the reminder that she had needed to know that she was indeed mortal. Later, in private, she might reflect about such notions in a little more detail. For the time being however, there was still a good deal which needed to be attended to.
There was a small voice in the back of her mind which had once been very outspoken. It wondered if this wasn't a coup. Akagi seemed prepared. Almost remorseless. Had he been waiting for a moment's weakness? Preparing himself in quiet? She didn't dwell on such a possibility. Her own future, she felt was relatively certain now as she felt like what she was: a very old woman who sat with a terribly heavy crown atop her head. If this had been some sort of a plot, then some part of her was reassured. Perhaps her eldest son had inherited some of the genes which had allowed Kimora to claw back the throne from the aristocrats who had allowed Arynn Frye to waste and crumble.
Finally, when he was finished, Kimora would raise her hand, signaling for silence before any of the debates began. "You needn't tire yourself Akagi. I have already decided to adequate." She would leave it at that, definitive and beyond any form of debate. "It will be better for you if I do so of my own accord. No need for any votes." As much as the Eldouir attack on Arynn Frey had been a debacle, Kimora knew that she still had supporters out there. Supporters who would come to her side even over her son. Rather than risk throwing the country into chaos, bickering and potentially even civil strife, she would step down and provide everyone with an easy way out. "I suggest that nobody here bother themselves with the question of succession any further, since it's essentially resolved. Instead, focus on what comes next." The queen/former queen declared.

ylas saw his brother in a new light that day. He always knew that Akagi would be well enough equipped to become King when the time came, he had never seen him acting with such purpose and seriousness. For a man who was known to be friendly, jovial, and even a bit goofy at times, he was proving today that there was more to him than all that.
He saw his mother anew as well. He hadn't expected this from her, having prepared himself emotionally for the conflict that was sure to ensue of Akagi's declaration. Instead, she refused any vote at all and chose to graciously step down from her position. While he had always respected his mother, it grew more today. Should she look his direction he'd offer her a rare, gentle smile of affection, before he turned his attention back to his brother to see what he would do now.
As soon as she agreed to abdicate her position, the poleaxe in Bowen's hand ceased it's spinning. The other ministers seemed to be happier for it, as witnessing the minister of defense suffer one of it's blows hadn't encouraged them. That might be something Bowen would pay for later, considering who the minister of defense was. He hadn't meant to attack the man, only threaten him, but it got the job done. And Kite would be alright. Just a little bump on the head.
In the silence that fell upon the room following the Queen's response, Bowen took a step forward. "The Queen has chosen to abdicate," he said, volume loud enough to fill the room, and more serious than some might believe it had ever been. "The line of succession calls for the eldest living child to replace her. Until the official coronation crowns him King of Arynn Frey, Prince Akagi Llewellyn stands as the current ruling monarch."
With that, Bowen jabbed the blunt end of his poleaxe into the stone floor with a thud, lifted his free hand to his chest and bowed deeply at the hips, to Akagi.
Keion had marked each of the faces that joined them in the Cabinet room and knew before Akagi spoke what this meeting would be about. Though it was a bit more catastrophic than wanted, the attack had been the catalyst the Prince had been waiting for. Keion's features remained neutral, hands clasped behind him as he observed the events that unfolded in the room. Though he appeared calm and relaxed, he couldn't stop his gaze from hovering on the Queen, wondering what she would make of this. He was truly prepared for the worst, but it seemed he needn't be.
A fleeting bit of surprise may have filled his eyes before he schooled his features again, at least glad there would be less chaos involved with the transfer of power than he had previously thought. His gaze flicked to Bowen briefly as the Minister made things a bit more official, and a small smile tilted up the corners of his lips as his finally looked back to Prince Akagi, waiting to see where this would go next.

Everyone would see the tension leave Akagi when his Mother agreed to stepping down, he was looking at his Mother though as his eyes said what his mouth replied, "Thank you Mother, truly thank you for your time and sacrifices to the throne," he gestured to the cabinet and broader in whole with his hands, "to this cabinet and the people," he bowed graciously before standing up right and turning to face his cabinet (well almost his cabinet), "now as my Mother said, we must look at what comes next for Arynn Frey," he looked at each face of his current cabìnet before settling on the current Minsiter of Defense a gentle smile on his face, "Minister your service to Arynn Frey has been long and peaceful, but is no longer needed," the man looked stunned but Akagi had spoken and instead turned his attention to @keion, "Mr. Blackwood if you may, please come and take your position as Minister of Defense. "
Akagi would allow a few moments for the men to swap, the Prince dismissing the former minister entirely. As he waited Akagi approached @calliope, "Miss Blackwood if you'd be as kind as to go and stand beside Mr. Blackwood," Akagi stepped back into the center of the room, "I have created a new position for our military, everyone welcome our first Admiral Commander @calliope. She will see that the orders of our new Minister of Defense and mine are carried out through each branch of the Peacekeeper corps, I believe this position will relieve our Minister of Defense to focus on actually assessing our defenses and improve our corps."
He turned away once more from the Caninet towards his brother Sylas Llewellyn, "The next position I wish to fill that has been lacking lately is Ambassador, Sylas please if you will: I need you to go to Lorendale and let the Queen know what has happened here today."
Akagi wasn't finished nor was he finished with his Mother turning to her once again, "The Minister of Goods, Mother, until my Fel...my wifes return, I temporarily appoint you to the position and ask when she does return you help her learn the role? Please."
Post by Hadrian Usher on Jun 16, 2023 11:53:08 GMT -5
After sorting through the chaos, Hadrian eventually gleaned where the royal family and officials had gathered. He made haste there, two witches in tow. When he arrived, he was announced by the Arynnite soldiers standing outside. If he let in, he would greet the woman he thought to be the queen with a small dip.
Keion stepped forward when he was called upon, clearly unsurprised by it. He and the Prince, or King, rather, had already discussed his appointment to the position. There had not been a Blackwood in the Cabinet since Cyrus's disappearance, but now the pieces would slowly fall back into place again. As he took his place, he bowed to both the Prince and Queen in a show of respect for the royal family. He did not say anything, for this was not a joyous moment for their kingdom.
But it seemed he was not the only Blackwood to be elevated in society today. He would try to catch @calliope's gaze as Akagi also called her forth. She'd perhaps be able to read the unspoken in his gaze, the pride for both the family and for her. And the promise to speak privately later.

As Sylas had had no previous knowledge of this plan, he had no idea that his brother would actually appoint him to a position on the cabinet. Still, if Sylas had to choose one of the roles, Ambassador would probably be the one he'd choose. Akagi Llewellyn knew him well at least and played to his strengths. He nodded to his brother, the King, "Of course," he affirmed before he stepped back, intending to wait until the meeting was finished so that he would have all the information there was to relay to the Lorendale Queen.
It was as Hadrian Usher stepped into the room and addressed the Queen that he saw his first opportunity. As Ambassador it made sense that he might relay the information to the Nevermeren Commander and so he moved to stand beside him. Once the greeting to Queen was offered, Sylas explained in whispers what the man had missed before he offered a gentle smile to his mother, Kimora Llewellyn.
