The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

step, thud, step, thud, step, thud. Othello hadn't originally thought about following the sound or the woman but a very long ago memory seemed to force his new course of direction. The sound she made as she walked wasn't the first time the Gifted man had heard that sound nor did he wonder why, she wasn't the first crippled he'd met over the course of his very wild life but he didn't reason it'd be the last either. She was the new talk though and Othello wanted to meet the creeping cripple that had every superior puckering their assholes from one military corridor to the next.
Approaching from a safe distance he let her know of his presence with a clearing of his throat, "You move well for a lass with a peg leg my lady, not quietly but swiftly, I had a second mate back in the days of my pirating who had a similar thud and similar...prosthetic...he moved as fast as bird shit on a flat roof...yet he wasn't as especially creepy as you my lady, either. What's your secret that keep all these folks here so straight and proper?"

Vesper slowed at the sound of Othello's voice. His odd accent and way of speak made him quickly recognizable in even the few times she'd actually heard him talk. Fully pausing and half turning towards him as she looked at him approaching her, she was momentarily stunned into silence by the barrage of words that barreled into her. She wasn't sure whether to be offended or laugh...and truthfully she wasn't the laughing type.
Peg leg? Creepy? It had been some time since someone had spoken to her with such disrespect. Foreigner he may be, but surely he ought to have learned more manners than that. She clasped her hands together in front of her with a dark, stern expression on her face, half considering her choice to simply turn and leave without a word. "Respect and healthy dose of fear," she finally replied, stiffening her back and pulling back her shoulders slightly. "Military folk in particular are well aware of the need to behave in front of those who can either help or harm their hopeful careers."

"Heathy dose of fear and respect," he let out a loooong drawn out whistle as his eyes got comically big, that was super creepy and he liked it, "heavy price for them souls then huh? What do you reckon pissed off the lieutenant back there? How'd you loose it?" his eyes were drawn to it, oddly enough it was a wild fetish of his....

Vesper measured her words. The King trusted this man to enter his kingdom and choose to serve him so there must be something here to trust, yet Vesper was struggling to not see him as an enemy who could be here to gain all their secrets and deliver them to...whatever kingdom he was actually loyal to.
So she didn't answer immediately and the silence drew out until it was edging on uncomfortable. "Lack of control," she stated simply in response to his question.

"Lack of control," this made Othello giggle loudly especially with his experiences so involving Witches, "Seems to be a running theme around here with you Witches, lack of control, the ball...that one witch who cursed Aldrich...so chaotic but I don't think that's a bad thing lady Vesper, i myself am a man chaotic at heart. Thrive in it."

Vesper started at the man with no reaction at all to his childish giggling. No, she still wasn't seeing what value the King or his Huntsman saw in this man. Was he all brawn and no brain? Did that make him easy to control or something? She had no idea.
"That might be the case, sir, but I was speaking about Lt. Abbott, not the witches. I believe he reacted the way that he did because he was feeling a sudden lack of control in the situation and was trying to regain that by stopping it suddenly," she explained with little inflection in her words. She stood so still that it almost felt as if even the breeze dared not brush past her but rather move around her, not a single hair nor the edge of her skirts shifted around her. She may as well have been a statue for as motionless as she stood in front of the gifted man.

"meh, that's no good is it? Just quitting when things get out of control," he mocked loudly, "poor examples of leadership which means for him shit rolls up the hill, he saw it from somewhere which means higher up are probably quitters too...seems you got your hands full Inquisitor...between chaotic women and weak men."

It was the first thing that the man had said that she actually relate to and the left corner of her lip quirked up slightly as he said it. Her thoughts exactly. Though she wouldn't give him the satisfaction of revealing her opinion on the matter. It was no business of his to know. "I do, yes, have my hands full," was all she was willing to offer him.
"But what of you? You have quite the reputation already. It's not my place to question the king but how did you convince him of your loyalty? From what I've heard, you've been all over Terra Nova. Why serve Nevermere?" Her curiosity was dying to know.

What a creepy little action she was doing with her face, it seemed as foreign as he was, "Our royal highness and I have a history, I squandered his trust once before back in Lorendale," Othello spilled his guts of course, "back in the collar and perverbial noose Inquisitor I love living, between the shit storm in Lorendale and Coheed I did a lot of growing...my boy needs me...so I adapt to everything, I'm a survivor. The King gave me options and no fool passes a second chance, especially this fool," he was pacing a bit regardless of her hot stump this woman creepy and only few people had ever creeped him out (a blonde from Cambria who howled in anger; and the King himself a man as emotionless as a block of cheese) and it was just how everything around her felt dead, "so I've done as I've been told, everything, he fixed my speech, he brought my child here, my boat, and then he gave me the freedom of range....maybe he likes me," he paused actually comically thinking perhaps that statement was true, but all in all it was a joke, "Either way, The King and Nevermere has given me a focus...I enjoy being a weapon, I'm good at it. Crack a few skulls and come home to my boy, all for the King. All for Nevermere."

Vesper kept her eyes on the man as he paced but didn't even turn her head, only here eyes following his movements as he relayed his story. He held nothing back, or so it seemed. There was no measuring of his words, no politics. It was as if he was simply speaking everything that was on his mind without holding back. How strange. Where was the game in that?
It was the revelation that he had admitted to once squandering the trust of the King that caught her attention. She, personally, didn't much believe in second chances or that people could change so much so as to be fully trusted again once that was trust was lost. Was he truly being this honest or was this the mask he put on to hide his true intentions? No, she had no intentions of putting much trust in this man, regardless of what the king believed. But Othello was not officially under her watch, unless Hadrian told her that he was. This was the King's mess and she had enough on her plate as it was.
Still, she fully intended to attempt to keep at least one eye on the man.
"That is admirable," she stated after his story. "For everyone's sake, I do hope you keep to your word."

"You mean 'for my sake'? It's my neck in the collar after all," he chuckled shrugging, "In due time I suppose my lady, in due time all I can do is prove everyone wrong...but please don't let me interrupt your haunting any longer Inquisitor, may you have the greatest day," and with a grin Othello bowed before turning on two perfectly good feet and walked away....
