The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!

[OPEN (TO MULTIPLE PEOPLE)]
He wasn't a practicing drill instructor anymore, but that didn't mean he couldn't still offer additional training to those interested in it. The lieutenant had announced at supper in the mess hall that he would be training in the courtyard later that night, after most soldier's duties and shifts had ended. He had said that it was without obligation, and that he would simply be providing those who attended with feedback and advice, along with one on one combat. He had grown a bit tired of being the bully and simply wanted to get the soldiers ready for the inevitable war.
So later that night, Aldrich stood in the middle of the training courtyard. He had fixed up some dummies with Ber a few days ago, so they were ready for actions, although the man would prefer actually sparring with the soldiers. An opponent that fought back would teach you far more than a dummy that didn't protect itself against attacks. He had no idea how many soldiers would actually come to the session, but it would surely show hoe many of them were serious about being a good soldier, and who was willing to train until they were ready to fight in a real war. None of them really understood what they were up against. Aldrich had fought in actual wars and knew how intimidating it was to see a whole group of opponents march your way.
We won't call it quits. We'll call it the start.

Zarha know that Abbott wanted her to take effott too relax a bit and show her more 'human side' of things however it will take small steps. He can't expect her to drop everything she have built up over the past couple of years and be a person she not but she is trying. So to prove that she is trying she walked into the training yard where Abbott was finishing a slice of cake that she got from the mess hall at supper as she went and stood to attention. As she walked in she was walking with a woman slightly taller then her. "Sliva, I wished that man early learn what a wash was, I was trying so hard not to cry from the smell." Zarha was trying so hard not to laugh.
"Good evening Lieutenant." She tries to straighten her face a bit.

Othello had heard through the grapevine that a Leuitnent was hosting some combat session, it gave Othello a itch that he needed to scratch. His new neighbors the Van Zants had been employed by Othe to babysit Benji, after all there were more then fifty of them all basically kids taking care of each other: what more confidence did he need in them to watch another? He trusted them.
The source of the host of this training session was revealed to be the Drooler or as Othello knew him now to be Leuitnent Aldrich Abbott. The man regardless was Othello's superior (the title of Champion held no power of course; Othello was just man enough to give the title a meaning, being here would mean the Champion was in support) so Othello would give the same dedication to this cause as he had given Regan. Playing well with others paid off it seemed, Othello was always smart enough to play along when it benefited him living of course. Beating the shit out of folks was just a added perk for the giant Gifted man. Falling in with the always prompt and first to arrive Zarha, Othello gave her a wolf like grin as he waited.
When blue eyes fell on the dummies he felt a little disappointed, he'd massacred dozens of those already and how could Abbott show these people real war or combat with wooden dummies? He prayed to their Goddesses this wasn't going to be the case. These kids needed a reality check, a kick in the nutts or cooch which ever presented itself first.
For better or for worse, staff duty meant that Ber was mostly out of the loop when it came to organized training sessions. In his opinion, he had enough to think about without trying to remember a schedule that no longer applied to him, and he couldn’t say he minded the relative lack of oversight. Certainly, the chain of command still existed for him, but nowadays, the chain of command was a little less interested in him. After all, his days were filled with menial tasks that they didn’t have time to micromanage because they were too busy micromanaging everyone else who did the important ones.
In any event, he now spent most of his day in relative solitude, including when he practiced on his own time in the mornings and evenings to keep up with everyone else. The courtyard was rarely empty, but they were emptier, which he’d become accustomed to and come to appreciate. Occasionally an officer made an appearance, so when Ber noticed Aldrich Abbott walking into the space, he merely eyed him for a moment before going back to practicing some of the rolls that Terach had shown him. Only when he paused, breathing heavily, for a drink of water from his canteen did he look around and notice the crowd gathering around the lieutenant. He recognized Zarha Sliva , which was entirely unsurprising, and Othello Allemeade ’s presence indicated that the Champion was apparently training with everyone else like he’d said. Huh.
Tired after a boring day of chores and more than a little annoyed at the sudden company, Ber eyed everyone from where he stood a short distance away and hoped they would all go away soon.

Octavius couldn’t avoid everything forever, even if that would have been far more comfortable.
Once upon a time, this soldier (and drill intstructor) walked the halls with his head high and a confident smile. These days, he avoided eyes, kept his head low, and did little other than sleep and show up for mandatory shifts.
Doing his diligence, he showed up for the training today. He stood in line as he ought to, eyes set on something just behind Aldrich, and waited for instructions.
Kat walked with Aldrich, planning to prove to him that she was just as good as any other officer. Maybe more to herself than to him, but that wasn't something he needed to know. Standing with her arms crossed behind her back she would wait until he gave instructions and then work on enforcing them however she saw fit. Well, how the military saw fit, which annoyingly was stricter than she would have liked.
Not the point though, and she wasn't going to let her personal ideas get in the way today. Certainly not when she saw the line-up for the day. It was going to be an interesting day for sure, and she kept her eyes straight ahead rather than moving to anyone in particular.

Vesper was no longer the soldier she once was. She'd once been formidable, a force to be reckoned with, and she still was in many ways. But she not longer held the same title of Naval Captain or even of 'soldier'. She had retired after an injury in which she'd lost her right leg, now replaced with a fake. It was well crafted of course, hardly even limping when she walked. But she knew she wouldn't be able to give all she had to her position and so had decided that retirement was the best option.
Though now, she had a new pep in her step, a new drive that she had worried had been lost to her. She'd heard about the training session that Lieutenant Abbott was planning to hold and with new motivations behind her. She made her way towards the training yards. As she walked along the ground it wouldn't be with totally silent steps but with a rhythmed step, thud, step, thud, step, thud as she moved to the outside of the training ring.
With dark, scrutinizing eyes and her dark hair framing her face. She looked around at who all had showed up to Abbott's training and observed expectantly. She had no plans to participate today but that didn't mean she was there without a purpose.
Elletta was a bit tired, with her new work load with the medic training on top of her duties and training as a soldier. But training was training even though it was in the evening. Plus, Abbott was definitely one of the better instructors that she'd had so she wasn't going to pass up on that. Rolling her shoulders, she joined the other soldiers on the field.

He was glad to see quite some soldiers show up for the training session, but he would make note of who joined in after they had already started, and who didn't show up. Even though the session wasn't an obligated one, a good soldier would join the training to be prepared for absolutely anything. He nodded at Zarha Sliva when she spoke to him, but didn't reply. He was however glad to see she was talking to another soldier. @katerina was by his side, and he was curious to see how she would act and lead during this training. If she was going to be training the witches, he needed to see her dedication, and her ability to put the military's values before her own.
Aldrich waited a bit longer and then stepped forward with his hands behind his back, legs wide. An impressive stance. "Good evening, everyone", he said. He let his eyes wander over the soldiers and they stopped when he saw Vesper Delvaux . A beautiful woman, a retired soldier. He nodded at her, a slight smile, before continuing down the line of soldiers.
"My plans for tonight are to let you train by sparring against each other. Your opponent will never be as lifeless and static as a dummy, and you need to be prepared to fight someone who will return your attacks." He thought for a moment how he would be letting the soldiers train. Then he decided and spoke again.
He then turned to face @katerina . "I'd like for you to keep an eye on Sliva and Haider and instruct them how to do better, work with them." Two witches would be observed by another witch. It seemed fitting. "Let's start with actual combat, but if we have time, we might be able to do some magic training as well."
Afterwards, he closed the distance to Vesper Delvaux . "Lady Delvaux, if you want, we could use you for today's training, if you could instruct Stormcrest and Wolfbrand."
Then he turned towards Othello. "Come on, big man. Let's get started." The champion was too experienced to pair up with a younger soldier for now.
We won't call it quits. We'll call it the start.

When Othello Allemeade walked in and gave her a wide grin, she couldn't help but smile back in his direction. They always got along, they work well and she think he the only private that has been more then willing to sit and talked to her without judging her. Without asking why she train to much? why does she doesn't hang with people? She felt like she doesn't have to try and be herself round Othello.
Her eyes drifted when Octavius Wulfbrand walked in her smile faded a bit, they talked a bit in the past, she hadn't had a chance to see how he was since the ball situation. However, for a moment she saw the flash of the boys lifeless head in front of her. She took a deep breath as she watch everyone enter before Aldrich Abbott spoke.
As she was told her pair she looked towards @elletta , the woman has a couple more years on her, so more experienced and she seems a couple pf inches taller then her and heavier. She takes a soft breath, remembering to take in Regan account to hold back her spead and watch who she sparring with and that witch never back down.
She got in position of course Kat is her Superior so have to wait to she give the go ahead.

Othello would join Abbott standing across from the man all of his smiling and happiness had since faded from his face, it was a look of stone cold nothing except for the little glint in his eyes. He wouldn't wait for a go or asked if he was ready because in combat wether it was one on one or in war those questions weren't asked. There was no proper decorum for hurting another person (not that he was going to hurt or kill or maim Abbott).
Instantly Othello would go to big boot Abbott in the chest and if Abbott ducked that the giant Gifted man would be ready to throw himself backwards with an elbow to the man's face...

Vesper looked up at Aldrich. In spite of the few inches he had on her, there was nothing ‘small’ about the witch. In fact, her expression was much more like she was looking down at the Lieutenant.
“No,” she stated rather bluntly. “I believe that’s your job, Lieutenant.”
She said nothing more and as he walked away she pulled a pad of parchment from the pocket inside her long jacket and sketched a note on it.
As Ber watched, more and more people joined the crowd. Dark eyes lingered on the older witch standing off to the side for a moment, but no, that was definitely Vesper Delvaux - hadn’t she quit or something a while back? what was she doing here? - before turning away to survey the rest of the newcomers. @elletta was there, as well as Wulfbrand, to whom he hadn’t spoken since that conversation in the hall, and @katerina had come to stand beside Aldrich Abbott . Fantastic. Nothing like two bullies working together to make everyone else’s life miserable. Abruptly, Ber decided he’d trained enough for the night and, sword and canteen in hand, made to leave before either Abbott or Winters noticed his presence and opted to drag him into whatever training they were doing.
But that decision came too late. The sound of his name had him turning to look briefly at Abbott in silent protest - he hadn’t even been a part of this group - before redirecting his gaze toward Octavius Wulfbrand , who looked just as small and defeated as he had the last time they’d crossed paths. With a quiet sigh, he approached the other man. “Wulfbrand,” Ber greeted him evenly with a nod. “Looks like it’s you and me.”
He’d meant it when he’d said that he didn’t hold the other man accountable for the events of the ball, but that didn’t stop his mind from straying, unbidden, to the last time he’d squared off against the drill instructor. With a tightening of his jaw, the soldier shoved the thought aside. This was different. Ber was armed. Wulfbrand wasn’t going to turn into a werewolf. Probably.
Ber was already warmed up and ready to go from his own practice, but as he prepared for starting the spar, he asked his opponent, “Ready?”
Kat was used to being the smallest in the room and commanding attention. But she also couldn't exactly act like she usually did, drinking during training probably was frowned upon. Something she would change if she was in charge, although that was neither here nor there. She had to focus on whipping the soldiers into shape. And apparently having Stompy Vesper creaking around the whole time.
However when Aldrich mentioned putting Octavius and Stormcrest against each other? She wasn't sure if there was a thought in the man's head at the moment, but rather than say that out loud she decided to be constructive with her words. Speaking quietly to the man next to her she glanced over at her prior pair. "Sir can I ask why you would pair Wulfbrand and Stormcrest together?" That was just about as polite as she could phrase it.
And if he dismissed her question so be it, but she was going to make sure she closely watched both the witch pairing and the boys.
Elletta eyed Zarha Sliva with a roll of her shoulders. A smaller but determined one, she remembered, and honestly the girl had some potential if she kept it up. She faced the younger woman and settled into position, waiting for the go ahead even as she watched @katerina's focus go to the guys.
