The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
Two days. That’s how long Hadrian had given Othello Allemeade to consider his comportment. Preliminary reports from his first night in the brig suggested that Othello was not at all taking his situation seriously; that he’d been a pest and a nuisance to those tasked with guarding him. Hadrian had sought no further updates since then. He had enough on his mind, after all. He’d deal with the gifted when the time came.
And lo, the time had come.
Hadrian had briefed Aldrich Abbott on what had transpired between him and Othello. Aldrich’s transgression with the report had been largely forgotten; after all, the commander was not in a position to hold on to such things. The makeup of Nevermere’s forces was ever younger, and so it was necessary to hold experienced soldiers close—despite their flaws. Aldrich was one of the best trainers they had, and so, Hadrian thought him the best man to help him thread this troublesome needle.
Othello would be seated in an empty room, awaiting their arrival—nothing but a chair and a window that provided a narrow view of Skia. He wouldn’t be waiting long, fifteen minutes at most, when Aldrich and Hadrian entered. Hadrian would stand before Othello, arms crossed, provided there wasn’t anything particularly bonkers Othello was doing inside. His arms would be positioned so that Othello would be able to see the sister ring on his finger.

Othello had enjoyed his reprieve, but by the second day he ain't whipped as the Commander had wanted no Othello was bored. A bored Othello was what they were developing and what they were dealing with, it was surely a problem but idle hands were a devious man's playground. Had it given him time to think? Yes. About what, time would tell.
He was whistling which ended with a high pitch when the door of the room opened leaning back in his chair, doofus (Hadrain) and gailent (Abbott) entered and he stood kicking the chair back against the wall with the push of his feet, "sirs," he greeted the two men, blue eyes flicking between doofus' new ring and the man's old withered face. He smiled.

Hadrian Usher had informed Aldrich of what had sent down at the docks, and the lieutenant had had to put his personal relationship with Othello aside for this task. While he didn't have anything against Othello and, in all honesty, could normally really appreciate the man, Aldrich had to admit that he completely understood why the Captain Commander had put Othello in confinement. He yet had to learn everything about how Othello had ended up in Nevermere, but one thing was certain: even Othello had to listen to the Captain Commander's orders. Being the Champion didn't put him in a special position where he could just pick and choose which orders he wanted to follow.
The dark-haired man followed behind his graying superior. Once inside the room in which Othello had been waiting for them, Aldrich would stand to Hadrian's right, only just a step or two behind him. He remained expressionless during and after Othello kicked the seat back. He wondered how Regan managed to contain this man's strength and behaviour, but he supposed a ring such as the one on the Commander's finger had a lot to do with it. Aldrich would remain silent, so Hadrian could start talking.

Internally, Hadrian grimaced, entirely unamused by Othello’s whistling and casual demeanor. Externally, the commander looked unphased. After all, the power he needed over the buffoon in front of him was in his title and on his finger. The gifted evidently had no idea just what kind of trouble he was in and what he stood to lose. That would soon be rectified.
“I’d like to talk about your future here, Mister Allemeade,” Hadrian started with no-nonsense military efficiency, “His Majesty has seen fit to remove you from Regan Lassiter’s…care and to put you under my leadership. It is becoming increasingly clear that Miss Lassiter neglected certain parts of your integration into the Nevermerean military. I will see to it that any gaps are filled in and any miscommunications rectified. What you have to decide, Mister Allemeade, is whether you will choose to be a cooperative party or a contrarian one. Now…”

"Lets talk Commander yeah, sounds great, I have a lot to say...Firstly I don't like you, easy enough to say. Second why does EVERYONE keep throwing this up in my face, 'be like you or him, be like Nevermere,' lets be honest I thank the trifold Goddess I am not but we know I'm not Nevermeren or Lorendale or Coheed for petes sake, you know it...Regan...the King...Abbott here knows it. I am a weapon plain and simple. BUT we can make all of this work...truthfully Commander I am soooo fucking bored, a bored non-focused Othello is like this...I mean for petes sake I go home and I look at my kid and I'm like what the fuck am I supposed to do with this thing? Before all of this yes I did whatever I wanted, it was fun but I had purpose. You've took my purpose away. I WANT to kill. I WANT to hurt people because by golly that's WHO and WHAT I am...I'm not a Father. I'm not a husband or brother or sister or friend. I am a scoundrel. I was promised action as long as I was on good behavior...with Regan she gave me something to focus on, adapt and learn to talk....now I'm stuck with you and its already boding badly....give me something to do that isn't sitting on my ass day in and day out...."

Aldrich didn't like that Othello included him in the monologue he went on. This was one of the reasons why it was so difficult to maintain healthy relationship outside of his work. Once you gained some kind of authority, personal relationships would be thrown in your face, and taking a side became increasingly difficult.
Hearing what Othello had to say worried Aldrich. Othello was indeed a weapon, but he was even more than that. He was a loose cannon, and if he wasn't willing to accept Nevermere leadership and authority, he was a dangerous weapon. Not just to the enemy, but to them as well. He remembered that Othello had asked him to find a home for his son if anything were to happen to him, and it started to look like he would have to do that sooner than later.
But again, he remained quiet. For now, this was Hadrian's conversation. He wasn't in a position to voice his opinion.

Hadrian listened to Othello’s little solliloquy entirely stone-faced. At first, he’d thought himself talking to a disgruntled, stubborn soldier that could be set straight with a slap on the wrist. Now, he realized he was talking to a petulant child. In fact, the commander rather wondered if the Coheedsman was, perhaps, not entirely all there—a prospect that was very concerning in deed. Once again, Hadran silently cursed Regan Lassiter (as if he had the power to do such things) for her apparent failure in his reformation.
He let the Coheedsman run himself out. After his vulgar, abrasive speech was over, Hadrian let silence settle in the room for a long moment, Hadrian spoke. His voice was quiet, foreboding even, as his eyes bore into Othello. Behind his back, his fingers stroked the ring on his finger.
“I believe, Mister Allemeade,” Hadrian started slowly, “You greatly overestimate my concern for your comfort, my care for your opinions, and—most importantly—the relative value of your gift. Weapons are only useful if they can be handled effectively by the wielder. If you are a weapon, as you say, and refuse to be effective, well—” Hadrian shrugged, “Perhaps your usefulness a come to an end.”
He indicated to the guards with a nod of his head, fingers still dancing along the metal of the ring.

Aldrich watched Othello leave, and once the door was shut behind him again, he turned towards Hadrian.
"Well said, Sir." Hadrian had put into words exactly what Aldrich was thinking, too. "Othello mentioned me in his speech, and while it is true that I know what happens if-, no, when he gets bored, it's not an excuse for his behaviour. In all honesty, I'm appalled by what I just witnessed." The man paused a moment. "He's a danger to our military."

Up to this point, Hadrian had kept his fury buried. It surfaced now like a burgeoning storm, tightening his jaw and curling his lip in disgust. He watched Othello exit with unearned swagger. As he spoke, he continued to stare at the door through which he’d exited.
“A danger indeed,” Hadrian nearly spat, “Evidently too much power was left in the hands of a woman incapable of controlling herself—let alone a man like Othello Allemeade. The king will hear about this.” He was finished with concealing his disdain for Regan Lassiter among those whom he trusted. She did not deserve the courtesy.
“You, Abbott,” Hadrian turned to him, “Are one of the finest trainers we have. You’ve gotten results before; I hope this time will be no different. You and I will correct this mistake. One way or another. Come…”
And with Aldrich expected to follow, Hadrian would march to his office, summoning the naval officer who had witnessed Othello’s initial outburst. With his assistant acting as a scribe, Hadrian, the naval officer, and Aldirch would give their statements and provide the king with a comprehensive report of the two occurrences. Once the king responded with his perspective, Aldrich and Hadrian would get to work.
In the meantime, Othello Allemeade would remain in the brig. The guards would be instructed not to speak to him—no matter how much he taunted them or caused an uproar. Hadrian would come to provide the lieutenant entrusted with his captivity with the ring as a precaution, instructed to paralyze the gifted if he proved too much of a nuisance.
The gifted would be provided with no clue as to when his confinement would end. All he could do was wait.
