[For Augustus Rainecourt]
Although Tybalt had told his niece that she was welcome to stay at his and Felicity's estate, Scout didn't want to be there, for now, for multiple reasons. The first one being that she didn't want to be coddled like a victim, although in a way, she was, and the second one was that her last encounter with Felicity hadn't been all too pleasant.
Luckily, apart from her uncle's estate and the home she had shared with Astor, there was a room in the palace she could count on. She barely ever slept there and it was mostly readied for her if she stayed at the palace very late, but tonight Scout would use the room to be able to be by herself for some time.
The flames threw long shadows on the wall, and Scout watched them, imagining they were doing a dance to cheer her up. She brought the bottle of wine to her lips and grimaced. It had been a while since she had drank alcohol, which didn't help her case, because she was a lightweight anyway. Wine just wasn't her thing, but what was? She wasn't big on liquor either, but maybe whiskey would soothe the pain tonight.
She rummaged through a box under the bed, in which she kept a bottle of whiskey. She took some sips and watched the shadows again.
An hour went by, but it felt like an eternity to Scout. It wasn't too late yet, so maybe someone would still be in the palace offices. It couldn't hurt to go and take a look.
The blonde was too drunk to be aware of just how drunk she was. She zigzagged through the corridors, but was able to appear sober when she passed the occasional guard. She ended up at her own office for a while, where she grabbed two glasses, before she was on her way again.
Three knocks. Soft knocks, so she wouldn't startle the man she was looking for. Prince Augustus Rainecourt. She had come to realise that apart from her uncle, it was Augustus who she trusted most.
She wouldn't wait to be let in. The guards were just changing their shift and they had seen her enter Augustus' office from a distance, but they recognised the Lady Steward and knew it was safe to let her enter.
Once inside, if Augustus hadn't gotten up or spoken yet, she would close the door again and walk over to his desk.
She tried really hard to appear sober when she put the bottle of whiskey and the two glasses down on the desk. She did all of this quickly, before he could object.
"Your highness", she said, curtsying, which almost caused her to trip over her own feet. "Care to share a d- drink with me?"
