The peace that formerly reigned in Terra Nova has eroded, now little more than a memory. War ravages the continent. Disputes divide kingdoms; ideals divide families. The quest for power consumes absolutely and indiscriminately. None are immune to its allure.
Who will rise and who will fall? Only time—and ambition—will tell.

5 whole years of Heir Apparent goodness! When I started the site, I knew I was hunkering down for the long haul, but I never could have predicted the numerous twists and turns this roleplay site has seen. Hundreds of plots, characters, and members have come and gone, all leaving marks on the site. I am so very thankful for those who have invested. Because you keep coming back, keep getting on, and keep writing, Heir Apparent has the legacy it does today. Three cheers to us!
Elletta saw @berengar get flung and it was a split second decision. She wasn't Octavius Wulfbrand's paired witch so she couldn't help there and more people were focused on him. As much as she wanted to help, she was very aware that she would be in the way. So she pushed her way towards where Ber had landed, telling folks to either help or evacuate the room.
If she was able to reach him, her first order of business would be ripping the bottom of her skirts and using the fabric to start triaging his wounds.
With the curse spoken, Kat dropped down onto the floor, watching the swarm of moving legs. Her eyes darted around the room, looking at all the paired witches she could lay eyes on. There was so much movement, whoever was still should stand out. Even with casting magic witches would move to get better positions, especially when there was a wolf running around without control. So she would attempt to find that stranded figure, if she did Kat would shout out their name and demand they release Octavius.
If not, it would be time for her to move on. There was only so much that Octavius, or wold Octavius could take. She needed to get him out. So she would start to move closer again, thinking about where she could open a portal to that would lead to his containment.
Just when the partygoers thought things couldn’t get any worse (or weirder, for that matter) they did. Octavius Wulfbrand continued to slow, but the creature fought with all its supernatural strength to do what it had been made to do: kill. The unsuspecting recruit, fresh off of mandatory training, was jerked into the air. Though the beast intended to rip out his throat, the creature’s movements were becoming increasingly sloppy as the curse took effect.
So, with the indiscriminate force of the wolf’s bite, the boy’s head was wrenched clean off his body. It bounced across the floor, rolling through the crowd, before coming to stop at Elodie Atwood ’s feet. Valeria Delaney and Zarha Sliva would see it too, just as the pregnant woman was pulled by the soldier from the floor. The erupting chaos from the severed head would make Zarha unable to pursue Zevran before he took off to assist his friend—who he would not yet reach and therefore could not offer her advice to Rune. @elletta would reach him and begin administering much-needed medical attention to the fallen @berengar .
The guards panicked and then looked in perplexed anger as Othello Allemeade pulled their swords from their hands. Most resisted, clinging to their weapons until they were taken from their hands. There were eleven swords in all soaring above the crowd, all gathering above his head. The moment of pause was enough to delay the two sword’s flight. They soared toward the wolf. The churning crowd made it impossible to be entirely precise. The one sent toward his heels would cut a touch off each like a generous slice of meat at a deli. The one sent toward his hand would fail to hit its mark. The beast was moving too swiftly, and instead just grazed his arm as he soared through the air.
@faylin and @alys shouted their orders, and the guards obeyed. As Kasper Van Zant headed toward his witch, some guards helped to clear the area while others started their search for the woman they spoke of. But all did so with a level of organization befitting of the chaotic scene (suffice to say, it was relatively low). @bex so far had gone unidentified as the perpetrator, not by @katerina or anyone else, though several soldiers grumbled, as the woman did nothing to move out of their way. As @bex focused on her energy on redirecting Octavius Wulfbrand , one witch did do a double take before she was swept away by the crowd and thought of it no more.
Rhedara Shannon went on her quest, and @raff remained outside the room—which was as much help as anything else, given the flood of people pouring from the exit.
Regan Lassiter , meanwhile, was in dire straights, but @warren came to her rescue. He’d scoop her up as if she were weightless, people moving out of his way as he ferried her toward safety. Regan futilely tried to remove to ring from her finger, but for the most part, remained limp as an overcooked noodle. He had reached the top platform when the king, Cassian Rainecourt , could be seen swiftly moving for the platform, the guards’ efforts to clear the way helping him to easily reach @warren before he exited with Regan Lassiter in his arms. If Warren released her, the king would be able to move toward the exit.
But not before the unanticipated occurred.
Aldrich Abbott wouldn’t reach @alys before her flesh tore away to reveal another beast. Those who were close enough to see it was the King’s Witch that had transformed would be stunned, with gasps and shrieks of surprise coming from those around her. A female werewolf? What dark witchcraft was this? The roar was enough to send the crowd scattering with fresh terror. Immediately, most would assume that she too was violent, transformed by some other unseen witch in a way they didn’t entirely understand.
@alys would start to move for the other creature which had started to launch at her. But, mid-flight, the beast started to transform back into the man. Octavius Wulfbrand ’s human form would start to fall just as @alys had pulled back to spring. Cassian Rainecourt was the cause, his ring suppressing the man’s wolf form entirely. Alys would be the only one left as eyes started to turn toward her.

Alys wasn’t phased by the gasps and shrieks around her. Focused as a hound on her target, she whirled and readied, her massive (compared to humans) body poised and ready to launch when human skin appeared. Human skin and a very naked Octavius coming to hit the ground.
She remained coiled, breathing hard as those very familiar brown eyes remained locked on his body, as if she fully expected it to be a trick before her eyes. And though her body quaked and panted, heavy breaths leaving her snout, she didn’t move.
If she was allowed a few moments to observed, to assess the situation, she’d make sure he wasn’t changing back before she’d take a shuddering breath and change back into her human form, crouched, naked, and muscles still coiled… ready to launch back into action if needed. A wildness to her eyes as if the wolf still lingered just skin deep. If Octavius Wulfbrand showed any signs of changing again, Alys would immediately force the change once more. A skill only a werewolf like her had.
Bex was so focused on Octavius and the witches, guards, and fleeing guests filling her peripheral vision, that when a second werewolf suddenly appeared her eyes widened in surprise. That one definitely hadn't been her doing but she had not even seen who it was who had transformed.
She had begun the words of a summoning when suddenly, again not of her doing, Octavius switched back without first being knocked unconscious nor put to sleep. Huh, that was interesting. Alas, she was going to release him any second anyway...probably. This was probably even better as no one would have the chance to see her trying to release the werewolf. How convenient. She halted her summoning spell mid sentence, which resulted in nothing at all coming from it.
Her eyes remained wide and locked on the second wolf, just like everyone else in the room. Those closer to the center of the room seemed more shocked than those further back but it wasn't until the second werewolf changed back into Alys Delaney that Bex realized what had triggered them so much (assuming she was close enough without too many people between her and Alys to actually see her). A woman werewolf?! Now THAT was fascinating!

The blades stayed perfectly still and with everyone yelling at him Othello maintained control of his other two projectiles, even with the damage already caused he quickly and just as easy as he ripped them away got them under control. Every he had just witnessed created so many more questions than answers. It was rare to stun him into silence but he was shocked...dumb-fucking-founded....he was able to ask himself 'WWRD?' which meant Othello returned every sword and gave Warren the one he requested. Perplexity washed over the Gifted man and he simply turned around, walking back to his lute on the ground.
Most of the band had fled, the harp player hadn't and Othello stared at her blankly shaking his head. He leaned against the wall, he wouldn't run, he'd hang around, if he couldn't kill this wasn't his circus then. That's what Othello would do if they needed him to do, but he could not, not, kill. He opted to just play a haunting tune.

Valeria was stumbling to stand up holding on to Zarha Sliva arms however when a head came within view she felt whatever she had to eat earlier was coming up she couldn't even stop herself as vomit came out of her. She tries to aim it so it doesn't hit anybody. Looking around she leaned into Zarha and looked at Elodie Atwood "Please I need your help to get out of here." Her eyes were soft thankfully she didn't land on her stomach but with people still are chaotic she need to be careful.
Raff heard the wild football match level shouting and screaming from inside and decided to run swiftly to catch up to Rhedara Shannon , offering to help with carrying some healing potions. Sounded like they might need a few.
Othello's ring seemed important to Regan, and he could understand why. "I'll get it. I'll get it once you're safe," he assured her, but he didn't get very far. The King himself made his way across the floor, halting Warren's progress toward the exit. For the briefest moment he held Regan a bit closer to himself when his King gave him an order, but quickly relented. If anyone would make sure that she was taken care of it, it was Cassian Rainecourt. So he nodded, passing her over as carefully but quickly as he could into the arms of the other man.
If he had time before Cassian took her away, he would slip the ring from her finger before pressing the hand against her chest again. "I'll take care of it. Keep the pressure," he told her, and then met the King's eyes and nodded. "Go, go." He turned and kept an eye out as Cassian Rainecourt and Regan Lassiter exited, and as soon as they were safe, he'd close the distance between himself and Othello Allemeade.
"Give me one of those," he said, and Othello did. With a sword now in hand, he'd look out over the floor once more to assess the situation. As he did so, the first wolf melted away, the man beneath turning back into himself. However it happened, one of the targets was gone. He turned and watched as Othello returned to where he'd been with the band, and continued to play as if people had not just been ripped apart.
If warren had successfully gotten the ring from Regan, he would twist it, preventing Othello Allemeade from further using his gift, just in case. Then he'd descend the stairs, heading for the second wolf with sword ready just as it - as she - returned to her human form. The King's Witch.
There was no time to stand around and be surprised. "Gather up the wounded," he looked at the three guards nearest him, barking new orders. "Take them to the healers immediately. And someone...find the head and cover up that poor kids body." Though still keeping an eye on Alys, he now moved toward Hadrian Usher. If he reached him through the still-moving crowd, he'd ask: "The witch who turned him may still be here, Commander, but a lot have evacuated. What do you want to do?"
Zevran was still solely focused on getting to @berengar. As he continued to battle the crowd, he could see that @elletta had made her way to him and was already helping him. And if she was attempting to help him, then surely he was alive. The pressure in his chest eased just a bit, but not entirely.
The sounds behind him changed suddenly, and he paused long enough to cast a glance over his shoulder to see the two wolf creatures now battling it out. Where the fuck had it come from? Had it also been another person that transformed?
Questions for later, or maybe never. He wasn't sure he wanted to know. If he was finally able to reach Ber, he'd crouch down next to @elletta, eyes roving over Ber's still lifeless form. "What do you need me to do? How do I help?" he asked, a bit frantic as his hands twitched at his sides, wanting to reach out to touch his friend but not wanting to get in Elletta's way. "He... he is alive, right?" he asked breathlessly, eyes pleading for Elletta to give him good news.
Kat watched the boys body get demolished, knowing the anguish that her pair would go through when he eventually regained consciousness. It made her even more furious. Whoever had done this would pay, even if the kingdom didn’t do anything, Kat would. But just as she started to gather the magic needed to open a portal, her partner started to appear, as another werewolf appeared and disappeared just as fast. The kings witch? Well, but she didn’t really have time to focus on it.
Instead she tore the bottom layer of her dress away, the one good thing about wearing a fancy proper dress, and would attempt to cover her partner up. She had already been heading towards him and anyone in her way she would attempt to shove aside. Everyone else could deal with the rest, her eyes still roving the crowd for anyone who looked stuck.
The first strips of fabric torn from her skirt had been used to immediately cradle the arm in place. She was assessing his arm carefully, feeling for breaks or swelling as she fashioned a makeshift sling to keep it from getting worse.
The sudden sound of Zevran wasn't enough to startle her concentration, thankfully, committed as she was to the task. "@berengar's alive and breathing, but his arm is some kind of fucked right now. Check his head, be gentle. He hit the wall hard enough to get knocked out."
Tying off the last strip of fabric, she started to check for other injuries on his torso given how he'd hit the wall and then fell.

Aldrich was pretty close to Octavius and Alys, and what happened was something he had never seen before. For a moment he was nailed to the ground, seeing how the two werewolves turned back into humans. Only them he realised that a young man had been killed, and he looked around to see the head near Valeria Delaney . If he was able to see that far, he would see that she had vomited at the sight of the severed head.
Aldrich would attempt to walk over to Valeria Delaney , putting himself between her and the head. Even though he had previously been annoyed with her, a woman didn't need to see all this, even though she was an officer herself. Elodie Atwood was standing right next to them. "Take her with you", he barked at her, trying to make her snap out of her selfish fleeing without helping a pregnant woman. "She's pregnant, for God's sake." He would remain there to make sure Valeria got the help she needed to escape. He would stay in the room himself to help more after she was safe.
Zarha holding onto Valeria to support her. Hearing Aldrich Abbott voice. "Yes sir." She nodded. Looking at Elodie Atwood "I best to divid and conquer." Hoping that Elodie understood what she meant both taking different side and in a way splitting the sea of people to help Valeria. Also she will try and protect the baby bump. If anybody knocks into Valeria. Zarha would yell at them to get out of the way or protect everyone.

One moment the wolf was raging towards its next target, and the next it was unconscious. The form of the wolf disappeared, leaving just the naked man, also currently unconscious. If he had been changed by a witch then his mind would have been on, but considering the abruptness of the change, it was as if Octavius was still caught in whatever place the conscience went when the wolf took over. He was naked, yes, and bleeding. His body had clumsily collapsed. It lay in an awkward heap, his breathing shallow, his mouth open, eyes closed.
