Alinore merely hummed in agreement at the noblewoman’s observation and let her gaze roam across the sea of dark hair dotted with floral islands. Though she spent much of her time navigating crowds and the network of interpersonal relationships within, the attendees of a public festival differed greatly from the attendees of court - ostensibly, at least. As a result, stepping out among the plebeians, an event that occurred with depressing frequency, requires the significant lowering of expectations, but even that could not prevent her from arching an eyebrow when some common-born scum bumbled his way into her and had the audacity to walk away without an acknowledgement or apology.
“No,” Alinore confirmed, pulling her gaze away from the offending man and idly scanning the crowd once more. “You needn’t waste your breath.”
A familiar figure caught her eye, and she turned to see @alden far too close for comfort, though he was fortuitously distracted by helping some low-born girl build her flower wreath. Predictable as ever. Refraining from an audible sigh, Alinore lightly redirected Meiying away from the pair with a touch to her friend’s arm, and as they made their escape, her gaze landed on some other well-known faces. “It seems some of the Delaneys have made an appearance,” She observed idly, eyes landing on Benedict Delaney and his twin. They appeared to be entertaining a member of one of the newest noble families and recent additions to court, Evanthe Curran . The woman was a handful of years younger than Alinore and an officer in the military, like so many others.
Well, she hardly felt the need to interrupt them, and as she offered a polite but dismissive smile to one of the many flower vendors shouting at them from along the streets, declining his invitation to purchase flowers for the purpose of wreath building, Alinore’s thoughts shifted once more. Dark eyes rested for a moment upon the elegant purple and white creation resting upon her friend’s head, partially finished though it was. “What else would you like for your wreath?” Her tone was pleasant, her words meant for Meiying’s ears only. “At least the flowers this year are respectable.” And far less disappointing than the men they were meant to attract.
